Valerian Sprigs are a common plant known even to muggles. However, what they don't know about are the many magical properties that this plant's roots have, including most famously being ingredients in the Draught of Living Death and Forgetfulness Potion. Going to my hometown's botany reserve, I was able to see the fully grown plant that this root comes from. The plants themselves were a little under 5 feet tall with white flowers blooming on them. Notably, they were out far away from buildings or trees allowing them to get a full days worth of sunlight everyday. However, as I smelled them a little, I noticed that the soil had a strange smell, and casting Acidious Revealious showed that the soil was very acidic which I suspected was the source of the smell. Taking some of the roots back home with me, I used some of them for a calming draught as well as leaving some out to improve the smell around the house.
