You practice
the Lumos Maxima a couple of times, just to be prepared. When you feel
confident enough you select the only option on the display: “Ready”. It takes a
couple of seconds for the magical barrier to dissipate, but it eventually does
and only the fact you already have you wand at ready allows you to cast a
strong Lumos Maxima on the vines creeping out and reaching to you. As the plant
pulls away from the light, you see that one of the latches on its vivarium came
undone and you rush to close it again.

Now that you
are safe from the plant, you can confirm that it is indeed a vivid green
Devil’s Snare with its swaying plant tendrils. Its vivarium is made to look
like a dark and damp cave. Good thing you remembered that it hates heat and
light. Although in the worst case, you could always have played dead. The more
you struggle against it and the more it will strangle you, but play dead and
the plant will let you go. You note that if you ever want to bring someone else
here, you should learn the Rennervate spell in case they fall unconscious and
the Anapneo in case they choke on their own tongue.

You remember
that Devil’s Snare can be used to guard objects, assassinate enemies or as a
distraction. If you ever need something guarded, here would be the place.

Feeling a
shiver from the encounter you just had, you decide to look at another plant and
hope that this one won’t try to kill you. The next magical barrier’s riddle is:

“You can use
me to treat acne but I can also cause rashes and burns.”
