Herbology and Charms.

Chapter 3
"So what was he like after I left?!" Janie asked about an hour later during Lunch in the Great Hall. "Oh, um..." I swallowed the sandwich. "Well, he got really shocked at first and THEN!" I made it much more dramatic for Janie when I retold his anger making him sound much more like a dungeon bat then he really was. "Was there anything else I missed?" she asked smirking smugly after I finished the story. "Their was this kid named Neville Longbottom that spilled his potion-well not spilled- it kinda exploded." "REALLY!" Janie gasped laughing. "Really," I said drinking some juice. "now are you going to let me finish?" "Yep." she said getting control of herself. "I want to know every thing that went wrong in Dungeon Bat's class!" I started getting my things and looking for my Herbology class with Hufflepuffs. "Well get to this next class then I'll tell you part of it. Then the rest at dinner." I knew this was the only way to get her to go to Transfiguration tomorrow with a lot of stuff to talk about. A class she would walk out on as well as Potions if the Professor wasn't our Head of Gryffindor House. "WHY?" Janie grabbed my shoulders and shook them. I shruged her off and started to say "Because it's the only way your going to live through the day." But she suddenly smiled and said excitedly. "Oh! B-dog did you HEAR?" she started packing up her things as well and spun in a circle. "Harry Potter is HERE! At Hogwarts! You've read about him right?" and without waiting for an answer(witch was going to be a yes) Janie reached into her bag and pulled out a DADA book and shoved it in my face. Taking a couple steps towards the doors she started talking about Harry Potter again. "He defeated the DARK LORD! You-Know-Who! Do you think he'll sign my book for me? Can you believe he is really here? I wonder what he looks like? I says so in the books but you can't really tell when your a baby! My parents thought I was blond, like that idiot from Slytherin!" "Well if you didn't run of during potions you would know." I grumbled, I didn't like this topic. "WHAT?" Janie gasped and stopped making me run into her. "Harry Potter was in our POTIONS CLASS? Why did I skip it? What does he look like?" See finished. "Well you're about to find out." I said dragging my feet towards the green houses. "He's in Gryffindor with us. We have Herbology with him in," I looked at my gold wristwatch. "four minutes." "REALLY?!" Janie grabbed my bag and ran of yelling. "Come on!"
When we got to greenhouse one I asked her why she had taken my bag instead of my hand. "Because you wouldn't cooperate if I took your hand! You would just snatch it away!" No I wouldn't. I thought. Wait, yes I would! I would take my hand away. But then Professor Rowan walked in and I had to focus on class(And take notes for Janie, who was starting a Harry Potter with a dreamy face. Which for some reason made me want to rip Potter's arms off.) We were pretty much learning about what the school year was going to look like, grades what Herbology is, our schedules and that we would be studying magical and non-magical plants. "That ends your first lesson." Professor Rowan announced suddenly. "Before you go pick up a copy outline for the year so you can plan for what's ahead. There will be an optional introductory essay for homework and a short quiz next lesson. Have a great week and I will see you again soon!" I got up and nudged Janie in the shoulder, picked up her things, gave them to her, not bothering to wait for her as I left the greenhouse to get to Charms. I caught up with Brandon in the halls sulking. "What's wrong with you?" I asked. "Anah is refusing to talk to me." he sighed. "So you're mad you have no one to fight with?" I laughed. "Shut up Brody." Brandon said, rolling his eyes. Laughing again we walked into the Charms classroom. We took seats in the back off the rectangle class room with rows of seats going farther up the pale tan walls. "Welcome to Charms!" said a kind of short woman  "I am Professor Cassandra Virneburg and I am thrilled to be guiding you along your journey to becoming Charms Masters." she walked over to her desk and stood on top of a large book which was called 'Standard Book of Spells Grade Five'  and she said. "Lesson one! Introduction is the History of Charms and Ancient Foci, Lumos and Nox. I do request that myself and my Assistants as well as your fellow students are treated with respect. I absolutely will not tolerate any rude or negative behavior towards anyone. Anyone found treating anyone else with disrespect will be dealt with accordingly. You will be responsible for keeping a journal of your progress in Charms class. This journal is meant to be a record of your thoughts and observations during class and while you practice the charms we have presented. Each lesson you need to write at least two to five paragraphs of information for your journal, with each paragraph amounting to at least five sentences. This means that each lesson should have at least ten sentences about it. This year we will cover the basics of spell casting including the importance of pronouncing a spell correctly and practicing wand movements as well as casting basic charms..." I zoned out somewhere near that part of the speech. I caught enough words to make something that might pass as note's if you were five. "...touch on the basics of wandlore..." "...wands are made of..." "...discussing the origin of modern-day spell casting..." "...crude wands made of a hippogriff wing feather..." "...useful charm: the Wand-Lighting Charm..." When Brandon punched me I snapped out of it. "What, are we leaving?" I asked him. "No, idiot, were doing the Lumos charm."He grinned, proud he wasn't the stupid one for once. "Oh." I got my wand out. Cherry wood with seed like carvings on the handle and unicorn tail hair inside. It was supposed to be one of the most powerful, but genuinely useless wands. Ollivander said there were the "most faithful" wands but how the h*** can a wand think for itself? "Onto the casting!" the Professor said over the class. "Now!" she continued. "The Wand-Lighting Charm is fairly easy the incantation is Lumos pronounced ‘LOO-mos’. The wand movement is a single counter-clockwise loop the willpower is low; determines the color of the light. The concentration is also very low; just focus on lighting up the top of your wand. Try the wand movement!" there were many whooshing noises in the air, some kid named Seamus in my dorm said the incantation and blew up a bookshelf. "Just the wand movement!" Professor Virneburg said calmly floating the books back onto the shelf. Janie took this opportunity to scoot over to me and Brandon. "Hi guys." she whispered and went into a speech that sounded like it had been rehearsed a couple times. "Look I'm sorry I went weird about Harry okay? I didn't mean to I just wanted to be able to talk to him... is that okay?" I glared at her, watching her eyes go wide. Then I grinned. "It's fine stupid!" laughing I lightly punched her in the arm. Taking a glance at Potter I saw he was talking to a red-head boy named...Ron? I wasn't really sure. That was forgotten about when Janie hugged me. I never, in a million years, have been hugged.
