Chapter 2
I go through my classes for the rest of day in denial. Bella can’t be missing. My only friend. My only reason for getting up in the morning. Gone.
I don’t know when I get on the bus to Bella's. I don’t notice when Caleb starts throwing rocks at my head. I don't notice when the bus driver goes past my stop without stopping. I only notice when the scenery goes from buildings and trees to dirt and bushes. I go up to the front and ask if he could turn around, but he only replies,” No turning around.” Before stepping on the brakes and saying, “Closest stop,” and gesturing for me to get out.
I step out of the bus and immediately feel the harsh wind on my face. He drives off leaving me alone. I walk forwards careful to watch where I'm going. I keep walking for about an hour before coming across a pile of rocks. I look up and see that the sun is starting to set and decide to get some rest.
I look for a place to sleep under the rocks, finally finding a big enough hole. I put my legs in checking for spiders or snakes but don’t feel any in there. I fit my body in and start to lay down, but my legs keep going. The hole doesn't stop.
I stick my leg down the hole more, to see how long it goes but still can’t feel the end. I push my legs even further still, but still nothing. I keep pushing myself back until I am completely immersed in darkness. I raise my hand above my head but can’t feel the top. I stand up cautiously, my hand above my head and feel my body draining from fear.
Wind thrashes violently on the black stones. Sweat rolls down my neck again and my heart starts racing. A sliver of light through a small crack in the walls. The shine of lumos, the shimmer of a lethal spell the glint of murder in a pitch-black eye.
I can’t move. My heart freezes and my body goes cold. It wasn’t a nightmare. It was a warning. The shadow moves and it feels familiar like I've seen this person before. My eyes widen. Bella.
She moves again, her hand holding her wand moving up. Her fingers tightening. I hear her whisper. My shoulder shatters like glass and I am immersed in pain. I scream. My knees give out and I fall to the ground clutching my shoulder, surrounded by a pool of blood. I see Bella turn away dropping her wand and I advance towards her clenching my teeth to keep myself from letting out a scream. I grasp my wand and hold my arm screaming the only spell I know with the only power I have left.
