Chapter 1
Screams echoing through the dark corridor, wind thrashing violently on the black stones. Sweat rolling down my neck, my heart racing. A sliver of light through a small crack. The shine of lumos, the shimmer of a lethal spell the glint of murder in a pitch-black eye.

My eyes snap open, my neck covered in sweat, my chest heaving up and down. I get to my feet, my head throbbing with every step. I stumble clumsily to the bathroom lowering myself to the floor the tiles cool against my skin.

When I get to my first class. I glance up quickly and search for Bella but there’s no sign of her. After class I walk to the bathrooms and lock myself in. I call Bella, no answer. She must be sick in bed. I wait for the bell to go and start walking to form, careful to take the least used paths, but still knowing what’s coming. “Hey four-eyes!” A voice calls from under a tree.

“Caleb.” I say annoyed.
“What’s the matter glass-face? Another dead parent? Ran out of those a while, ago didn’t you?” He laughs.
I clench my fists fighting the urge to punch right in his big head. But the bell goes, and I am forced to quicken my pace, staring at my old black shoes.
“Catch ya later window head!”

I start running to form, thankfully not meeting anyone else on the way. By the time I finally get there I am 5 minutes late and sweating, slightly wetting the inside of my hoodie. I look around for Bella again but still can’t see her.

By lunch the entire inside of my hoodie is wet from running from Caleb and my hair is stuck to my face. I go back to the bathrooms and try calling Bella again. No answer. I tell myself she must be sleeping. But on the inside, I know something's going on.

I call Bella’s mum to ask if Bella is okay but when she answers it isn’t the usual “Hey, how’s school going? I’ll get Bella for you.” She almost sounds sad. Like she’s just been crying. I ask cautiously” Is Bella okay?”
I hear a sob from her Mum and feel my arms go cold with fear. “Hello?” I ask hesitantly. Her Mum replies, “Bella was not in her bed this morning and we haven’t been able to find her.” Her cry. My body goes numb and my mind goes blank.
