Chapter 3
I made myself a nice cup of tea and was settling down on my couch with a book, when there was a knock at the door.
I curled up tighter in my sweater and ignored it. I leaned down to sip my tea, and the intruder knocked again, louder.
I took a shaky breath. " Who-who is it?" I called. Silence.
" Moony, it's me." Sirius's voice yelled back. My eyes widened, and I leapt from the couch. In my mad dash for the door, I tripped over my shoes, slipped on a spill of tea, and banged my head on the wall.
"You alright in their?" Sirius asked, the smirk audible in his tone.
I rolled my eyes and pulled open the door. " Hey, Sirius." I said, stepping back.
He nodded, but didn't come inside. I glanced around awkwardly. " Uhmm..."
Sirius scoffed. " Moony, I need a place to stay..."
My heart beat sped up.
" Do you know any good hotels?"
I raised an eyebrow. Sirius, oblivious to the stupid thing he had just said, sucked his teeth.
I sighed. " Sirius, just stay here for awhile."
Sirius cleared his throat. " Okay, fine. How much do you want?"
My jaw dropped. He wasn't serious? " Sirius, you're my best friend. You can stay at my house for free!"
A grin spread across his face. " Yeahh! Thanks, Remus!" He said, strolling into my living room.
He pointed at the couch, where my book and cup of tea sat.
" Wow, you sure were having a party without me here!" Sirius said sarcastically.
My face burned as I hurried to put away the items. When I came back, Sirius was sitting on the couch, with his shoes on the armrests.
My eyes widened. " Sirius? Could you please remove you shoes when you sit on the couch!" I said, trying to keep my voice level.
He glanced at my red and yellow striped socks. " Okay, Moony. Come here! Is poor little Moony getting pissed at me? Aw, poor little baby!" He said, holding out his arms.
I crossed my arms, refusing to go sit with him.
Sirius raised his eyebrows. " No? Aw, poor little baby Moony's really mad! Oh, he's so cute when he's mad! Aw!"
I sucked my teeth.
Sirius was laughing now. He crossed his legs, and patted his thighs. " Aw, come on, Moony! Come sit with Sirius! Come here, you know you want to!"
I was caught off guard by his words. He was telling me to...Sit in his lap? I tentatively walked toward him. He smiled hugely.
" Aw, here he comes! Here comes little Moony! Cute little baby!" Sirius said, spreading his legs out, now patting the space on the couch between his legs.
I stopped short, my face burning. " Uhhmm...Err..."
Sirius's eyesbrows danced, and I walked the rest of the way to the couch. I settled down in front of Sirius, and he wrapped his arms around my waist. His chin rested on my shoulder.
" I love you, Moony." Sirius said, his voice barely above a whisper.
I inhaled. " Love you too, Sirius."
I guessed I had done something right.
