Next Time
Chapter 2
I stared up at the ceiling and sighed. I had transformed right after Sirius left, and then come and stayed at an old lady's home.
I sniffed. It smelled like cats.
Why did he keep leaving? Did he mean for me to send him an owl?
Well, I thought, sitting up, I suppose I was about to transform, so he had to go.
I hopped out of bed, ecstatic. Of course! He didn't want to leave! I'd write him a letter, and ask him to meet up!
I hurried to scribble a letter. My barn owl, Amber, hooted happily for a new job.
I stood back and watched her fly off.

It was two days later, and Sirius was supposed to meet me at the ledge he showed me. It wasn't a full moon, so he had no reason to leave early.
I anxiously looked back down the hill, straining my neck. I hear rustling behind me, but excuse it as the wind. A twig snaps.
My wand flies out and is pointed at Sirius's chest. I take a deep breath and put away my wand.
He chuckles. " Hey, Moony." He said softly.
" Hello, Sirius. This time, you really are on time."
" Just like you're on edge?" I hadn't noticed the coldness in his voice before, but Sirius's words sliced the air.
I stepped away. " Uhm..."
Sirius took a step away, as well. " Remus, why'd you ask me to come here? I was busy." He said, not looking at me.
I swallowed. " What, a guy can't want to see his best friend? And if you were that busy," I added. " You didn't have to come."
He glared at me. His voice was losing its edge, and now he sounded pained. " Really? You expect me to just, stand you up? You know I could never do that."
I looked down. " Sirius..."
"What?" He snapped.
" Are you alright?"
Sirius just shook his head. " Good-bye, Moony." He began walking away.
No, not again! I reached for his arm.
" Sirius!"
He turned around to face me. " Why can't I talk to you?" I asked, trembling.
Sirius must have noticed, because he sighed and pulled me into a hug.
" Moony." He whispered in my ear. I looked into his eyes. " Yes?" I mumbled.
" I don't want to put you in danger." He leaned in. " I'm dangerous."
I rolled my eyes, despite the moment. " Sirius, are you- I'm the werewolf, I'm the dangerous one!"
He shook his head, but I continued. " I could kill you! I could turn you into a werewolf! I could--"
He leaned down, farther yet, and pressed his lips to mine. My eyes bulged. I stared at Sirius, to his mouth, and back again.
He pulled away and rolled his eyes. " Wow, Moony, you're amazing at living in the moment." He said sarcastically.
I exhaled. " Until next time, Sirius."
Sirius's eyes widened. " No, Moony, I told you--"
" Until next time, Sirius." I said, a bit louder.
His shoulders sagged in defeat, but his eyes were smiling. " Until next time, Remus." He said, eyes still twinkling.
And we walked off in different directions, each away from the other. But we felt closer than ever.
I couldn't wait for the 'next time'.
