The Shenanigans Of 42.
This is the diary written by members of The League of 42. Hope you enjoy reading our entries.
This diary/book was drawn from an idea from our very own Lylia Lee. As far as we know, no other dorm has ONE diary for all its members. You will notice some of our entries have the same events, because we have been current to see these events unfold. Everyone also has different events going on, as not everyone was there to see it, or they did those events with other people.

Being back has never felt so refreshing.
Prefectdom
Team leadership position
It was a humid, sticky Tuesday afternoon and I had been
sitting in a corner of the library, pouring over 4 different textbooks and
taking notes from each for the entire morning. I had finished all of the extra
essays for Lit week and was trying –perhaps futilely—to get caught back up on
the homework I missed in my absence. I had finally decided to take a break (in
truth, I had given up on Ancient Runes and put my head in the book) when I
heard a strange noise between a yodel and a shout. Even more strangely, the
noise seemed to be gleeful. I looked up, puzzled, to see our resident
pool-maker and Kneazle-owner approaching my table at a sprint, with a glint in
his eye.
I looked to the right and left of me, warily. I checked the
tables behind me. No, it was definitely me he was headed straight for. He
stopped just short of the table, and yelled triumphantly “high five”! Luckily,
I had enough presence of mind to put up my hand to intercept his, or else it
would have likely hit me in the face. Finally, he was closed enough to see my
startled and very confused expression. He understood and grabbed me by the
hand, hauling me up the flight of stairs to the dorm.
Sitting on common room table was a shiny blue and bronze
badge. Sitting around it were too many people to count equipped with
noisemakers and enthusiasm… and using both of those things
I finally understood Malav’s excitement. I was finally
officially a Prefect!? I made a similarly unearthly noise to the one he had
made upon entering the library… something between a whoop and a gargle.
Nothing could dampen my mood for the rest of the week. I
performed my duties as Team Captain with a smile on my face: being supportive,
motivational and the go-to person for questions. I got caught up (slightly) on
work with the help of some study buddies. I even welcomed in a new teammate!
Unfortunately, the excitement of welcoming people in was
dampened by saying goodbye to one of the most important, cheerful figures from
the dorm. Yesterday, she sat us down and told us, with obvious effort, that due
to circumstances outside of her control, she was moving away. “I don’t know how
far”, she said, shaking her head. “And I don’t know for how long. It might be
forever.” She added hesitantly. It was a pretty emotional last night with her
as we helped her pack and sat around the Common Room reminiscing. But we knew
that should she ever find her way back, she would be more than welcome to come
home.
Don’t let the Muggles get you down,

Dear
Journal,
It was time; time that I stop returning to empty quarters at the end of the
day. I missed coming 'home' to chatter, laughter, and friends. I write to my
former dorm mates every week, which keeps my owl quite active. While they chose
to venture on to foreign schools, I remained. Hogwarts will always be my home,
and now my home within a home will be with the League of 42. Although I made
this transition willingly, there was a good push from a few of my friends,
Rhiannon and Novi!
After my first week, all is well. It will take some time to become familiar
with everyone, but I've been welcomed so warmly, so I'm sure I will enjoy my
stay here. I hope they do not get tired of my papers flown everywhere or
sporadic sleeping patterns. With the global expansion just months away, I'll be
running around like a mad woman trying to maintain correspondence between
various countries.
Well, I should be off. I have to be in the Philippines within the hour!
Until next time,
Holly (Holly Higgins)
Dear Diary,
Hello you. I haven't written in you in ages. I am very
sorry. I have good news to tell you though! I have been getting stuck into my
studies and not too far off completing first year. I cannot believe how far I
have come! I have so far completed Astronomy, Charms, and History of Magic. I
am very close to completing Herbology and Transfiguration. I am not far behind
Transfiguration in Defence Against the Dark Arts, which I now PA for. The one I
am still a fair bit behind in, is Potions. I have a feeling I will be finishing
Potions last. But, who knows? I thought I would finish History of Magic and
Herbology first and I have only just finished HoM!
So as I mentioned, I have become a Prefect for Defence
Against the Dark Arts. It's a great job, but it is hard for me to grade as
everyone else gets to the queue before me! At least I am still able to grade
one or two each day! There is also the fact that I can't grade assignments I
haven't done myself. But I am planning to finish DADA either next or after
Transfiguration.
I have also become a Chat Moderator (or known as Chat
Prefect when I first became one). In my timezone, none of the CM's were
available, so the GH would be chaos. I was asked to be CP so there was a
moderator in my timezone, but it was still a struggle as I was the only CM and
it was still chaos. Eventually more people became CMs for my timezone and now
the GH runs more smoothly.
We welcome a few new students to our dorm this week, Melissa
Mikols, Mirana Rochford and Holly Higgins. Malav always welcomes people to the
dorm with a 'welcome dorm dance' but no one actually knows what it looks like,
so I did a little lip-sync mini-dance to a song to be the 'welcome dance'.
I cannot remember if I wrote about Novi's birthday present!
I secretly got half the dorm involved with a video for Novi. I am so grateful
for these amazing dormies! The dormies got to choose a part of the song of 'The
Chick Cheep Song' and interpret it however they like. Caitlin did her part in
Spanish, Manon did hers in Dutch, Dani did hers with her chin being her 'face'
I think that was the crowd favourite.
Novi was over the moon when we skyped him and sent him his video!
I guess I don't have too much to say, so I shall leave you
and get cracking on my Transfiguration assignment, bye for now,
bebbel. (Rhiannon

Hey Little Book!
You wouldn't believe it, but I am officially a year 2
student! I cannot believe that I finally made it. I always joked that I would
be a first year forever student. Other than finally getting to year two, not
much has been happening with me and my life. Halloween was yesterday, my
dormies were a little confused at my outfit, a shirt, that looks like an iPod,
that has 'Rhiannon -Fleetwood Mac' on it, because my parents named me after the
song. I like to think I was quite creative with my 'costume'. I have also
joined the History of Magic PA team. I am so excited for my year two, I am
aiming on reaching year 3 soon as well.
All for now, Rhi. (Rhiannon

Day: Sunday
Date: 2nd November 2014
Location: The Great Hall of Hogwarts
Time:4:12pm AEST
Dear Diary,
It's my first time writing to you. To be honest, I am
quite excited! This week was mostly spent in the Great Hall, enjoying the
company of several students I've had the fortune to meet and a little bit in
the dorm. Guess What? I think I've started a minor trend! I call it Pillow
Mountain; a mountain completing consisting of soft cushions for students to
lounge on. Though, it's usually just Nikk and I using it, I've noticed some
other students are using it too! I hope it becomes a popular location in the
Great Hall...but if it doesn't, no biggie. Hopefully, Esme doesn't find it...
Yesterday and the day before, I participated in the
Halloween Hunt that Novi's hosting! To be honest, I found it slightly difficult
in the beginning but got the hang of it after help from my dear friends in the
Great Hall. L42 is a wonderful dorm and I love it and everyone in it so much!
All of them are amazing people and I'm proud to have them as dormates! I now
await for the Golden Snitch question that Novi will release tonight. Hopefully,
I won't miss it and I'll get the answer!
Today was a relatively productive day. I spent most of my
day in the Great Hall (big shocker, right?), dealing with vampires, talking
about ships, being serious, flouncing into Pillow Mountain, doing assignments
(Whoa, me doing assignments? That's a first!) and basically doing my duty as a
knight. I actually completed 2 and a half lessons of Astronomy, claps for me! Honestly,
not only was today enjoyable, but it was tiring as well. I woke up at 7.30 in
the morning and then spent more than 5 hours in the Great Hall. Why I didn't
leave? Because I love everyone there and I love talking to new people.
Hmm, I don't really think there's anything I need to say,
other than, I probably should get out of the Great Hall some time soon.
Lots of love,
Miri (Mirana
Rochford)
November
2nd-November 8th
Dear Diary,
Hello! I am new and super excited to be part of the
League. I haven't quite gotten the dorm-speak down yet, but I'm starting to get
the hang of things. I'm playing Beater for the Sleeping Sorcererz team, even
though I'm kind of small. But I'm tough and very protective, so I won't let any
Bludgers get near my Chasers or Keeper! Aside from getting settled into the
dorm, I've also recently advanced to 2nd Year and have been hard at work
catching up. I'm planning to do the courses this year in the opposite order
that I did them 1st Year. I will never again leave Transfiguration for last!
I'm looking forward to taking all of the offered electives, too. I'm hoping
that my dormmates and I can hold pajama study parties as we all try to finish
the last few assignments before the end of the term. I can't wait to see what
2nd and 3rd Year hold for us all!
Hugs!
Osi (Sid Harris)
The rest of second year flew by in the strange way that
things do: with long, very full days that somehow pass in the blink of an eye.
It was just yesterday that she had returned from settling her family’s affairs
in the States and had been sitting in the library, but in reality that had
happened a few months ago.
All that had happened in those months. She shook her head
and, yet again, chastised herself for not documenting more. It had been a
wonderful year, filled with new faces, old faces and misadventures.
There had been the week where she and Rhi had spent hours
booby-trapping… er… fortifying the
defenses of the dorm after some low-lives had broken in. Personally, she
thought it had gone quite well—apart from the one incident when Bronze had
ended up Astrictused to the ceiling for a few hours… and when Fadi had
activated the Caterwauling Charm at four in the morning when he was doing his rituals… and when Onji had done
something so nefarious as to try to open a window and ended up doused in
confetti and Petrified. But truly, apart from that, it was a resounding
success.
Then there were her classes. She was so lucky to have Dana
as her DADA dueling partner this year. She had really made something that
Isabel had worried about (all the physical components: dodging aiming, running
that she wasn’t good at) and made it more fun than she had ever imagined. And
when the resident DADA Prefect dorm members would jump in, it just made it all
the better! Then, when there was an option to have partners in Charms, she was
lucky enough to pair up with the Other Isabel in the dorm. She had never
learned or practiced so much in one
class period!
Lately, though, the dorm had been trying to motivate all the
Ravenclaws to get up and fight for the glory of Ravenclaw! Or, at least, do
assignments for it. They had taken to frequenting the Common Room and
motivating each other. Isabel was glad, as that was how the dorm had been
introduced to Sid and vice versa. For the last month or so, Sid had been
haunting the Common Room and Isabel had tried to stop in and visit her dormmate
and cheer her fellow Ravenclaws on as much as possible, as did many other
people in the dorm.
Actually, hanging out in the Ravenclaw Common Room had
produced a good deal of interesting situations. She had been reading late one
night, trying desperately to get caught back up in Herbology, when two people
had stumbled in, lost in each other’s eyes. Isabel had looked up with a cocked
eyebrow and an amused smile when she noticed that one of them was no other than
Nicole… and some new boy with pink hair. She half-watched, amusedly for a few
minutes while he showed Nicole a Muggle soda machine and how it worked,
accompanied with blushes, compliments and sweet conversation, until she, accidentally dropped the thickest book
she had on the floor and coughed. Nicole’s face when she whipped around was
horrified (even after Isabel had promised she wouldn’t tell “Dorm Mummy” about
it). She left shortly after to give the two some privacy, as she had obviously
embarrassed the flying Hippogriffs out of the two.
Isabel looked over the last entry she had made in the diary
way too many days ago and chuckled. The subject she had been working on then,
well actually, been taking a break from then, was the class for which she had
just been appointed Head Girl. When she had heard Professor Steven’s owl
tapping on her window late one night, she had been completely bowled over and
had woken the neighboring 2 honeycombs of rooms as well as her own roommates
with her strange, yet unmistakably excited yell-singing. Everyone had been so
sweet in congratulating her—Holly, one of the girls in the rooms she had woken
up with her squealing, had announced it to everyone and then Novi had put up a
pun-laden banner up in the Dorm Room to show everyone.
Honestly, now that she thought about it, Isabel wasn’t sure
why the rest of the dorm kept her around. Despite her good intentions, she
still seemed to cause no end of facepalms, late nights and awkward situations.
She was glad they saw past it all and appreciated what little she did do right, though. Hogwarts wouldn’t
be the same without them.
Don’t let the Muggles get you down,
Isabel (Isabel Rhodesse)
Dear Diary, I want to make a new entry,
Sorry, I've been really into muggle music lately, that line
came from a song called 'Girls on TV' by a muggle boyband, The Vamps. I heard
it on the radio and liked it so I added it to my playlist.
I am loving life and can't wait to get into all my lessons,
let's hope I can get to year 3 quickly, quicker than getting to year 2 at
least!
Unfortunately my cat gave me a really bad allergic reaction
so my dormies made sure I was ok. She doesn't usually give me bad reactions,
but I must of swallowed a hair and/or it got in my eyes because my throat hurt
and my left eye closed up because it got that bad. At least I'm better now.
I should really get back to my studdies, I'm currently in
the common room with Sid and we are tackling assignments!

Dear diary,
after having taken a break from most of my classes for a
couple of weeks, I finally decided to get back to work now. After all, I'm a
proud Ravenclaw and eager to learn! While most of my friends decided to enjoy
the sun outside, I stayed in and did my homework. Although I'm still far from
catching up, I'm slowly getting there. Maybe I can even start the next school
year when everybody else does - that would be fantastic! I'll keep you posted
about that. So far I have finished three of my courses and working on getting
number four and five done within the next few days. If I keep my eyes on the
prize, and not let myself get distracted too much, I should be able to do it.
And now back to work.
Love, Chrissi (Chrissi
Voss)
Enjoy :)
