Williams Academy

Chapter 1

(This is an extremely quick kind of prologue intro chapter. It's not really Hogwarts related, but it needs to be added so the story makes sense. If you don't want to be completely confused, then I would read this chapter :P)

There was light shining into the dark room from the bright, inviting outside world. Instead of being out there I was stuck in a dreary classroom with a bunch of people I hated, copying down stupid things. I hated having to take academic courses along with magical ones, it just made life so much harder and way more stressful. Right now I was in Math, although I did well I didn't enjoy it. I blew out a sigh and brushed a piece of blonde hair behind my ear as I doodled a heart beside my name in neat scrawl Natalie Harris.

"Natalie!" my teacher Mrs. Evans sterned me. "Do you know the answer to the equation?" I sighed.

"It's 19 Mrs. Evans."

"Very good, I'd appreciate it if you answered after I call your name once next time," she glared at me and turned to the front of the class again. She was the nicest teacher at Williams Academy for Witchcraft, an all girls private school, which kind of sucked when you were 15. I've hated it here ever since I stepped foot in this school four years ago, and was planning on getting out.

The bell finally rang after a long hour and class ended. My friend Kate came up to me as I walked blindly down the hall.

"How was Math?" she asked.

"Good, how was potions?"

"You know Mrs. Dirks, so not as fabulous as I wish."

"I'm doing it tonight," I suddenly blurted. Kate immediately gave me a look of betrayal.

"But... what are you even going to do after you get out? What about me?"

"You have people. I have nobody but you Kate, I can't keep living life miserably."

"You'll get thrown the the streets if you get expelled! Nat, where would you live?"

"I'll figure something out," my dad wouldn't take me in, he basically blamed me for my mother's death (she died giving birth to me). He also didn't understand my whole witch situation and was practically afraid of me. "You could help you know," I said but Kate shook her head.

"My parents would kill me and you know that," I looked down at my shoes and Kate looked away guiltily.

"But you can still write to me, and like I said you can help me and we can hopefully transfer together," I started up again lightening the mood.

"Nat, trust me when I say that I cannot," we then stopped in front of Mr. Smith's door. "Time for history," I sighed and walked through.

Throughout history Kate kept looking back at me with fear in her eyes. I kept rolling them back at her, truth was I didn't even know what I was going to do tonight. I just knew that I was ready to leave, with a bang of course. I needed people to remember me.

That night I stood in the doorway of the cafeteria while all of the girls were eating... except for Kate who was talking with some friends and quickly glancing at me every so often. I shook my head slightly at her so she would stop and not give me away.

"Time to use some magic," I smiled. I signalled for Kate to leave the room so she wouldn't get caught in the meddling. I wasn't sure if I'd be able to pull this off. The spells were pretty complex and not often used. I pulled out my wand and whispered some spells, I turned spagetti into worms and the meats into spiders and the fruits and veggies into snakes. I made the fire alarm go off and water spray down from the ceiling, soaking everybody. Some girls were eating at the moment it happened, some were watching in horror. I then turned the water into gooey green slime. The room was complete chaos. People were running and screaming in all directions. The girls were running to the bathrooms to rinse out there mouths and slimy hair. Some girls were trying to kill the spiders, worms and snakes. There was a loud sound like a horn.

"I DEMAND TO KNOW WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS!" the headmistress Miss. Davies screamed. I stepped forward smiling wildly, then with the flick of my wand made everything disappear.

"I am!" I chirped.

"YOU!" Miss. Davies face was red with anger. "ARE COMING WITH ME TO MY OFFICE RIGHT NOW!" she took me by the arm not bothering to care that she was squeezing the circulation out of it. As I left I saw the faces of disgust from my peers as they noticed me for the first time. Then I was practically assaulted by the Miss. Davies as she violently dragged down a series of hallways. We got to her office near the front of the school and she sat me down at her desk slamming the door behind her. "Why would you do that Miss. Harris?" she asked me trying very hard to keep her voice calm, but her lip kept quivering. She was an older woman, with brown hair in a bun, a long robe and pointed hat. She had quite a few wrinkles from age and stress. Her eyes were dark and cold.

"Because I enjoy watching other peoples pain," I answered like it was no big deal.

"This isn't the first time you've done something like this, you've stolen things, you've talked back, you've vandalized the school (all part of my master plan, I'm actually not a bad person). Miss. Harris this may result in an expulsion. I'm contacting your father tonight to come and take you home for a while."

"No, please! You can send me to an orphanage in Europe or even throw me onto the streets for all I care, just please don't send me home to my father, please."

"I have to, you have no other guardian to take care of you, and we surely won't after the stunt you just pulled."

"Can I be sent to another school?" Miss Davies stared at me.

"Maybe but I can't do that, a guardian has to register you," she was softening I could feel it.

"Please Miss. Davies, if you help me get out of here I'll never ever see you again!" I promised her. She sighed

dramatically.

"Fine, but if I do this for you, you have to promise to never come back on these grounds again and if you do we're going to put a restraining order on you," she said sternly. "I know you're a very smart girl who would do well almost anywhere. In fact two school's have actually heard about you. There's a school in France, an all girls school called Beauxbatons and there's one in England called Hogwarts which is co-ed. Professor Albus Dumbledoor is the headmaster of Hogwarts."

"I've heard of him," I said more to myself. So lets see, another all girls school with a bunch of people who don't speak my language and are probably as stuck up as the ones here, minus Kate of course. Or a co-ed school led by one of the greatest wizards of all time in a place where I originated from. Yes my mother was from England and my father from Canada. Not too long after my mother died, my father moved us to Canada to start over.

"I pick Hogwarts," I said matter-of-factly.

"Well I'll have to contact Dumbledoor first, he doesn't normally accept transfers, but Williams' does have a very good rep.

"Yes," I said mock enthusiastically. "Where witches thrive," I recited our mega-lame slogan. Miss. Davies gave me a stern look and my smile faded.

"They've already had a month of summer. I can get someone to fly you to England via broom and you can stay at the Leaky Cauldron for the remaining month. Do you have any money from your family?"

"No... you know my situation don't you?" I said quietly.

"Here, we can take the rest of your school savings and use that on your stay at the cauldron and on books, Miss. Harris, consider yourself expelled. I'll alert you tonight if I hear back from Dumbledoor. Pack your bags, I have a feeling he'll accept."

That night I got an extreme silent treatment from the girls in my dorm. Then the silence was broken my Mirage, an extremely popular, unbelievably rude person.

"I can't believe you aren't expelled, like, what are you still doing here?"

"I am expelled," I said calmly.

"So is that why you've packed your bags? I thought you were being ironic," she was literally the dumbest person to walk the Earth.

"Wow Mirage, ironic, that's a big word. Congrats," there was a knock on our dorm, Kate opened it. There stood Mr. Proppe, he looked neutral.

"Miss. Harris, Director Davies would like to see you."

"Snap," Mirage whispered to Shenae, our other mega-irritating dorm mate. I took my bag and walked through the door, Kate right behind me. Mr. Proppe didn't tell Kate to go back inside, he let her follow.

"So am I transferring?" I asked Mr. Proppe. He didn't respond. When we got to Miss. Davies office my heart fluttered. Would I finally be released from Williams? Miss. Davies opened her door, she had a smile on her face.

"You've been accepted to Hogwarts, you leave tonight with Kingsley Shaklebot, an auror from the Ministry of Magic," she nodded to the tall, black man beside her. He looked legit. I turned to Kate, she had tears in her eyes.

"What will life be like without you?"

"I'll write everyday, I promise!"

"Nat, don't even bother," she looked so upset. "I don't even care at all."

"Kate, I'm so sorry."

"Bye best friend," she hugged me and sniffled, but her eyes were cold.

"Goodbye," I picked up my bag and followed Kingsley outside. Leaving this hell-hole was a blessing, maybe my mom was watching from heaven.
