Apprentice
Chapter 5
The Apprentices are Warriors in training, they practice how to fight and learn the warrior code by heart.
Apprentices become Apprentices when they turn 6 moons old, thats when they change their name from
-kit to -paw, indicating they are now training.
Each Apprentice is assigned a Mentor, a Mentor is a Warrior who teaches his assigned apprentice everything
he needs to know about beeing a loyal Clan Warrior.
They are taught how to fight, how to hunt and most importantly, their taught the Warrior code. This code is respected by all the clans (Theres another chapter about that too ;)). It always depends on the individuell Apprentices on how long training lasts, the average time is 6 moons but it sometimes takes longer. For example Firestar, who had 9 moons training. And sometimes kits get apprenticed later for good reasons, for example Crookedstar, because he twisted his jaw, he was kept longer as a kit.
Apprentices dont only learn how to fight and hunt though, they have their own duties around camp.
They are responsible for hunting for the elders and making sure to check the elders pelts for fleas every now and then. They also change their beddings to make sure they stay comfortable.
When the Mentor decides that their Apprentice is ready to become a Warrior, the Apprentice has a assesment. During this Assesment, they prove their fighting skills and hunting skills, during the hunting part the mentor follows the Apprentice hiddenly and watches his progress. At the end, the Mentor reports to the Leader who then decides if the Apprentice is ready, if he is then his warrior ceremony follows the same or next day.
The night after the Warrior ceremony the New Warrior sits watch in the middle of camp for the entire night and is not allowed to speak to anybody. This is meant so that the new Warrior can think about his upcoming time and make sure he knows how to rightly act.
More coming!
