Chapter 3
While eavesdropping on some other students, I found that we would put on a hat that would sort us into certain houses. I was really quite nervous. I didn't know whether I wanted to be sorted or not. If I wasn't in Slytherin, Aislinn and Adam would kill me for sure.
"Alexandrina Victoria!" was announced, and I immediately felt a rush of shame for not having a surname. My full name could be pronounced only. I slowly walked to the hard stool to sit and await the magic hat's decision on my doom.
I put the hat on my head and held my breath. Slowly, the hat began to speak....
"Worry....Hate....Fear....Difficult, oh yes, very difficult indeed...." It seemed to take an eternity. At last, the hat cried aloud, "RAVENCLAW!"
Ravenclaw? I did not know what that is. I did not know if I wanted to know, in case it was something horrible. But at least my sorting was over with. I ran to the Ravenclaw table, where students young and old were applauding me. I supposed they were smug that they had gotten the future queen of England as a new House member. Though I saw Aislinn and Adam shooting irritated looks at me while I sat.
"You'll see. Ravenclaw is the best, most intelligent House at Hogwarts," a female voice chirped in my ear. I jumped. Another Ravenclaw, approximately my own age, sat to my left side. She had dirty-blonde hair piled up on her head and tied with a barrette, though there was an unnecessary metal clasp hanging off the end of her hair and a few hairpins here and there.
"Hello," she continued. "My name is Ivia, but my brothers call me Ivy. I know who you are. You're Alexandrina Victoria, of course, the future queen of England."
"I-hello," I said back. Ivy was very different than me, I could instantly tell. She chirped instead of spoke, and her hair, which was very different from my own, perfectly manicured hair, fell in globs of stuff and had obviously not been combed. But Ivy seemed like a nice girl, and very kind.
"I had no idea you were magic," said Ivy.
"Me neither. I'm not sure if that's a good thing. People called me a Mudblood, you know," I explained. Ivy gasped. "Who! That is very offensive, you know. It must be a Slytherin."
"I think it must be," I said, scouring the Great Hall for Aislinn and Adam. "They were two people, Aislinn and Adam."
"Oh them," Ivy sighed sympathetically. "My youngest older brother was constantly bullied by their older siblings. Their family is plain evil. Oh look, the feast is starting."
I was about to ask her what she meant, when the empty dishes and goblets before us suddenly filled with dishes and splendid beverages. I had never eaten so much in my life in one meal. By the end of out feast, I was plainly stuffed, and very extremely sleepy. I collapsed on my new four-poster bed and fell asleep right away, comforted that I had finally found a friend in this terrible place.
