Chapter 1
“Be careful what you wish for” I was told that my whole life. Because you can never know, which wishes might come true.
I never believed in it.
But to make my parents get off my back about it, I made a list of my top twelve wishes. Everytime i wanted something with all my heart I would change my list. And whenever I could wish for something, I would wish for my twelve wishes to come true.
I wish….
1. I have a boyfriend
2. I am in the cool kids group
3. Everyone knows my name
4. I have a car
5. I have perfect grades
6. I have the newest phone
7. I’m popular at school
8. I get the lead in the school play
9. I have a new dog
10. I can control my sister
11. Colleges had already noticed me
12. My crush likes me back
My 15th birthday was coming and i was extatic because the cool kids were coming to my party. Jay, Matt, Ann, and Saya are the cool kids.
Mattew ‘candy’ anderson- a boy who is sweeter than sugar. He is nice to everyone and never says no to the chance to help someone. Girls have fallen in love with him over and over again. Matt is dating Jay though.
Jay ‘bad boy’ callaway- a boy who could be more sour then a lemon when he wants to. He is the bad boy of the school. He is only nice to Matt and his sister, Anna.
Anna ‘queen’ callaway- a girl who knows everyone and everything. She can ruin your reputation with a single word or she can make you more popular than movie stars. Her brother is the only one who tried to ruin his reputation but can’t do it.
Sayana ‘boss’ jameson- a girl who is the student president. She is a total boss. She also is on top of everything that goes on in school. Or at malls. She has a total fashion sense.
It had been one of my biggest wishes for me to be in their group.
My sister and I were setting up the room we were going to be using for cake and pizza. We had already decorated the outside for my pool party. My sister was complaining about having to help me when this was my party. “I don’t like to understand why I like having to help her!” she said. She says way too much. “Because I helped you on yours.” I told her. “Mom! MARCY IS BEING MEAN!!” my sister yelled. My sister is only 4 years younger but she acts like we are the same age. It’s annoying as heck.
When I finally finished I texted my friends to ask them when they were getting to my house for my birthday. They all said they would but my best friend, Sarah said, “Oh your birthday is today? Sorry can’t make it. I have izzy’s birthday instead.” she texted. That hurt more than anything. For your bestest friend to say she wants to go to the birthday party of a girl you have never even seen or met. The rest of my friends think Sarah just doesn’t want to hang out with me anymore. But I remained positive. Maybe there is a girl named izzy and it is her birthday today.
Everything was going according to plan. Kids started arriving and we all started swimming. I was having fun. Even the popular kids were having fun! I was smiling and watching everyone until one of my friends, Lauren, came up to me with her phone. “Marc, look at this.” she said, giving me her phone.
Sarah: Do you wanna hang out right now?
Lauren: I thought you had a party to go to.
Sarah: nah, i have nothing to do today.
Lauren: Marcy's birthday is today. Why don’t you come?
Sarah: nahh. Marcy is boring and since the only reason anyone is friends with her is because she gives gifts.
Lauren: that's not true! I am friends with her because she actually is a nice person who doesn’t need to buy your friendship!
Sarah: whatever lauren. By the way, her wishes thing is kinda stupid.
Lauren: Sarah that means! And I think her wish thing is actually kinda cool!
My heart felt broken. “I’m sorry marc.” Lauren said. I looked at her. “Thanks for showing me what a horrible friend she is.” I said, starting to get angry at sarah. I took a picture and sent it to sarah.
Me: look here sarah! Now I know how much you are a fake friend. Thanks. You can now forget the diamond earrings I was going to give you!
I blocked her afterwards and ran up to my room. I erased number 7 since it’s like number 3.
7. Sarah pays for wronging me.
I went down stairs and kept swimming with everyone. I forgot about sarah. She didn’t matter right now. The popular kids came and even had fun themselves. If all goes well, wish #2 would come true! But then my friends had another surprise for me, they had invited my crush, samul, to come! “Numbers 1 and 12 might be coming true today!!” they said to me. I am so happy I have my true friends.
And finally it was time for me to blow out my birthday candles. I waited for everyone to get to the table before my mom brought out my cake. But right in the middle of the cake was a huge mark taken out. Like someone had dug their hand in my cake and pulled some of it out. My mom tried to act like everything was okay. She ran into the kitchen and I followed. There was my sister with frosting all over her mouth and on her hands. “What?” she asked. My mom and I exploded at her. “Well I had to help decorate this place so I am allowed to take some of the cake!” she complained. My mom got so mad at her. My sister ran out crying. I went back out to everyone and just covered the spot up with frosting. The birthday went normal after that and when I blew out my candles, I wished that my 12 wishes came true.
The next day at school, a boy came up to me, his name was michel and he was really handsome and sweet. He confessed saying he had a crush on me for a long time and wanted to know if we could go steady. I immediately said “yes!” I felt overjoyed! Wish number 1 came true! I told my friends everything. Sarah kept trying to talk to me though. I avoided her.
“What if all your 12 wishes came true?! Then you would have everything you have wanted!” Lauren told me. “Imagine that! It would be so amazing!!” I told her.
When I got to my next class, the cool kids were waiting at my desk. “Would you like to eat with us today?” Matt asked. I nodded quicker than I ever thought I could. They left my desk and went to their desks. I secretly texted lauren.
Me: dude! The cool kids invited me to sit with them!
Lauren: you go girl!! You did say yes right?
Me: yeah of course!
Lauren: like i said, you go girl!
I had to put my phone away and pay attention to class.
But you had to admit, you would be happy too!
When it was finally lunch time, I went to the table of the cool kids. They had saved a seat for me. “So we were wondering if you wanted to maybe join us in the cool kids group.” saya said. I felt so happy again. “Yes! I mean, sure.” i said trying to be cool. Ann left talking to everyone. Wish 2 and 3 are coming true now!
After lunch everyone wanted to talk to me! Michel felt happy for me and was very proud to say we were dating.
When i went home my parents said they had a surprise for me. I followed them out into a garage. They had bought me a car! And not one of those old cars. A new clean car! “Oh my god! Thank you so much mom and dad!!” i said as i hugged them both.
I checked my grades hoping that something happened, something did! My grades were perfect!
And since my grades were perfect, my parents got me a gift. A new phone! The newest one!
The next day when I went to school I went to try out for the school play! I got the lead! I knew my wishes were all coming true! My friends were so happy for me, but I didn't notice that I was with the cool kids more than I was with my true friends.
When I went home my mom and dad told me they were getting me a dog! We went and found the cutest one! It was a fluffy little shetland sheepdog.
I found a drink that had a note that said, “give this to your sister. You’ll be able to control her.” forgetting about safety and everything i poured it into her drink when she wasn’t looking. Later I asked her to do my homework for me. And she did it!
I got a few emails from colleges saying they were interested to see if i wanted to go to their schools when i am of age. I almost squealed. Everything was going my way!
But something didn’t settle right in my stomach. When i went to school i found out why. I saw my boyfriend and waved to him but he turned away from me and kissed another girl. “I never even cared about you. Your body was the only thing i liked.” he told me with the cold in his voice. My wish 1 went wrong. It was just a coincidence. My other wishes are going to be good. Then I saw the cool kids.
Matt was sending me an icey cold glare. And that surprised me. Even to bullies or mean people, he was never mean or rude. It scared me seeing him mad at me. Jay was just shaking his head no in disappointment. Ann was texting everyone. She was ruining my reputation. Saya wasn’t mad. But she looked really disappointed in me. “We don’t want you to be in our group anymore. We don’t even want to see you.” saya said. They all walked away.
“What just happened?!” i thought. Wish 2 just died.
As I walked I saw kids whispering to each other pointing to me. They all avoided me and when I tried to talk to someone, they ran away. “Marcy is..” i heard. “She...marcy…” “her name is marcy..” wish 3 did come true. Everyone knows my name. But not like how I wanted.
When i went home my mom and dad were angry at me. “You stole a car?!” they both yelled. I was confused. “What? No, I didn't, you two gave me a car!” I yelled back. “We can barely even make enough money to pay for our house! Why do you think we could buy that car?!” my dad yelled. “Where did we go wrong?!” my mom said as she started crying. I ran up to my room. Wish 4 had gone wrong. I sat on my bed wondering what was going on. Until I got a message from my school.
School: we are sorry to inform you, but you are expelled from school. For hacking into the school and changing your grades. You will go to school for this week but after this week, you are hereby no longer aloud to come to our school. We will meet with your parents/ gradients on april 4th.
I was so surprised. I didn’t though! I laid on my bed wondering what was going on. But sadly my phone fell and it broke. This felt like the worst day ever.
When I got to school, I had early practice for the play. I went in and saw sarah. She was performing my part of the play. I don’t know why but I got so mad I hit something. Turns out it was a button to let the sandbags down. “Sarah is really good at acting. I am so happy she agreed to be an understudy and annabella.'' I heard behind me. Annabella is the character who talks to mine most. Sarah was just practicing my part because she’s the understudy and to make sure she does her part correctly. I heard a scream and when I turned I saw the sandbags where Sarah was. I saw blood as well. Everyone started running over scared and when they finally got the bags off, Sarah was already dead. They all agreed that sometimes the sandbags fall by accident. So it was all just a freak accident. But I knew the truth. I ran away and hid in the bathroom. When i came out knowing no one would know about what happened or what i did, everyone was running from me. They were scared of me. I saw Matt and Jay and the second the two saw me, Matt hid behind Jay and Jay glared at me. “You crossed the line.” he said before turning to Matt and walking away with him. I was so confused. What did I do?!
I saw my old friends. I grabbed Lauren's arm. “Tell me what happened.” I told her in a voice that didn’t feel like me. “Everyone saw you kill Sarah at practice…” she said before pulling her arm away. “Mrs. Bella doesn’t want you as the lead anymore. I knew you were mad at Sarah, but I didn't think you would do that.`` Lauren said scared before she ran away. I was in shock. How did everyone find out?!
I went home and my dog was going crazy biting everything. My once sweet pup was going nuts and crazy! I ran up to my room to get away. But when i got in my room, my sister was there. She was just staring at me blankly. “Oh go jump out your window or something.” I said mad at her. She left my room without saying a word. I was so annoyed until I realized something. She was still under my control. She would do anything I asked. I ran after her and grabbed her just when she was about to. “RELEASE! STOP!” I yelled hoping it would take her out of my control. She wasn't though. She just looked at me with a black stare. “Stay in your room and do nothing!” I yelled before I ran out.
I got a few messages for colleges that I was in the programs for. They didn’t want me anymore. They said i was too much of a bad student and if i went to their school, their reputation would go down.
My heart broke. Why was yesterday such a good day and today such an evil day?!
I saw a shooting star and with all I could, I wished that all the wishes that happen would be reversed. When I went to bed I still had a bad feeling. When i went to school, i broke up with michel and didn’t want to see him again. That made me feel stronger.
The popular kids no longer hated me because Ann had admitted to being jealous of me and making up rumors about me. We ended up on good terms and they did talk to me every once and a while but I always picked being with my friends most of the time.
A few people heard about what I found and others didn’t care about me. I was no longer known in my school except by the people I am friends with or care about.
When i went home, my parents looked at me. “We are so sorry my dear. The car was our new neighbors and we didn’t know about them. We are so sorry.” my mom said. I hugged them. They were no longer mad at me.
Turns out my grades were just glitched. They let me come back to school and my phone was fixed after a while.
I got the lead again in the play because Sarah was okay. She got out in time and what we all saw was a dummy and ketchup. Sarah apologized to me saying she was just jealous because I seemed to get everything she wanted.
My dog just had a biting problem. She was a perfectly sweet dog with a small tendency to be biting something.
My sister groaned saying we were being too sappy when I hugged my parents. I smiled. She was no longer in my control.
I had to work harder to get back in the college programs but they were happy to have me back.
I was so happy for everything to be over. I now am definitely gonna be more careful. I texted Lauren and explained everything.
Lauren: wow.
Me: yup. It all happened and i still can't believe it.
Lauren: wait i have a question
Me: go ahead
Lauren: That was 11 wishes that came true. The crush one never came true?
Me: nope. I guess i wished on a star quick enough so i wouldn’t see how it would happen.
Lauren: but don’t you wonder what could have happened if it came true? Wait omg i just thought of something.
Me: what?
Lauren: what if the reason the wish didn’t work was because he already had a crush on you!!
Me: ha ha ha. That might be possible, but nahhh
Lauren: It could be.
I smiled happy to know my friends were back. And that everything was normal. But then when I looked outside, I saw my crush. He was smiling up to me. But he didn’t look normal. Like he was covered in something. I got a message from ann.
Ann: Hello macey.
Me: uhh hi ann.
Me: what are you doing?
But suddenly i stopped when i heard something. It was the tv downstairs.
“Two girls found almost dead. Sarah norway and anna callaway. Both were found bleeding. It was by luck they were found.”
My heart stopped.
I looked back to my crush. I soon got a picture from ann of me. Right at that moment.
“Ann”: you look beautiful when your scared.

My sister groaned saying we were being too sappy when I hugged my parents. I smiled. She was no longer in my control.
I had to work harder to get back in the college programs but they were happy to have me back.
I was so happy for everything to be over. I now am definitely gonna be more careful. I texted Lauren and explained everything.
Lauren: wow.
Me: yup. It all happened and i still can't believe it.
Lauren: wait i have a question
Me: go ahead
Lauren: That was 11 wishes that came true. The crush one never came true?
Me: nope. I guess i wished on a star quick enough so i wouldn’t see how it would happen.
Lauren: but don’t you wonder what could have happened if it came true? Wait omg i just thought of something.

Me: ha ha ha. That might be possible, but nahhh
Lauren: It could be.
I smiled happy to know my friends were back. And that everything was normal. But then when I looked outside, I saw my crush. He was smiling up to me. But he didn’t look normal. Like he was covered in something. I got a message from ann.
Ann: Hello macey.
Me: uhh hi ann.
Me: what are you doing?
But suddenly i stopped when i heard something. It was the tv downstairs.
“Two girls found almost dead. Sarah norway and anna callaway. Both were found bleeding. It was by luck they were found.”
My heart stopped.
I looked back to my crush. I soon got a picture from ann of me. Right at that moment.
