A Game of Riddles
Chapter 2
"One: the more you take the more you leave behind. What am I?" I thought, and then I said, "Footsteps! Footsteps!" The goblin looked a little upset. I had got him!
"Two: name three consecutive without saying Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Do that! Muah ha ha ha." My mom had taught me this one. I knew it right away. "Yesterday, today and tomorrow!" I answered. King Goblining looked upset again.
"Three: a cowboy comes riding in on Friday, he stays for three days and then he leaves on Wednesday. How is that possible?" This one I didn't know right away. This riddle required lots of logic and thinking. Before I could shout out the answer, Rose said, "The cowboy's horse was named Friday!"
"Four: what are the next three letters in the combination of letters? O T T F F S S. What comes next?" King Goblining asked. This one was much trickier than the last three. I mean, it could be any three letters. Our Prefect had to answer this one for us, "E N T!" "Why would it by E N T?" King Goblining asked. "One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten."
"Five: there are two men at the riverside that want to cross the river. There is a boat but, it can only hold one person and they both reach the opposite side. How did they manage?" Marisa answered this without thinking, "They were on opposite sides of the river." We had correctly answered 5 riddles. We had to ace 10 more.
I couldn't remember all of the riddles. All I remember of the next 9 was some were hard and some weren't hard. But, with the Ravenclaw spirit at our side, we managed to solve every single question. But I did remember the fifteenth one.
"Fifteen: this thing all things devour. Birds, beasts, trees, flowers; gnaws iron, bites steel; grinds hard stones to meal; slays kings ruins town, and beats high mountain down." This one was extremely hard. And we had to think of one thing that performed all of these tasks! An idea popped into my mind. "Time!" And luckily that was the answer.
We had won the deal so, King Goblining returned us to our cozy common room.
