The Other Snape

written by Louisa S R W

Biography and life story of Sarah Louisa Snape Riddle. This has been, in part a way for me to heal. I think it has done that. If you would like me to write more about certain aspects I will, but for now, I leave you with this.

Chapter Twelve - We Fight

Chapter 12
There are many what if’s that I go over in my mind about the night of the battle. What if I had stayed with Fred? What if I hadn’t gone here or there…but at the end of the day this is what I remember happening, and it was all within a few hours.

Harry, Ron and Hermione showed up at Hogsmeade and we sent out the call to pick up the others. We entered the building en mass in the evening. My uncle had no choice but to flee. I was in charge of securing defenceless students. I put them in one of the dungeon tunnels I knew. I then put charms around them to help protect them for longer. I ran upstairs and found a globe of protective charms around us and the stone statues on the walls now on the drawbridge. I called for anything and everything from the Forest to help and they did. We just had to wait. I remember taking Fred and George by the hands. “Together?”, “Always Lou”.

We watched as our defences fell, as snatchers came in and time was running out. I saw Lucius with my uncle and flew, literally. Usually I am level-headed but the tables had been turned. It wasn’t until I was by the boats of the shrieking shack that I realised Fred & George had grabbed me and been transfigured too. We heard Voldemort and they pulled me to the ground. It took both of them to restrain me. Then it was done. I was screaming into Fred’s hand. I could hear Nagini bite. We lay so still. Eventually it was quiet and they let me go. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I lay him as though he were sleeping and went off to fight. If Voldemort was going to kill my uncle, I was going to help Harry kill him. We left.

I fought in the corridors, in the gardens and on the staircases. I was angry, I was hurting. I will admit that I was probably in a fog, my own little world of pain. There was a moment of rest, I entered the Great Hall and saw all the dead bodies. My thoughts went straight back to my uncle. Then I saw Fred.

I made my way back to the courtyard. The silver tree that had represented so much to me over the years. From meeting places with Cedric to meditation with my uncle. People were clearing through rubble. Hagrid came in with Harry in his arms. He wanted people to now join him. Draco was pressured as always, but I stood my ground. I wasn’t going anywhere. I protected Neville from several curses as he rallied the students. He killed Nagini, so thank you.

We continued our fight and, in the end, won the war. Voldemort was dead. The sun was to rise on a new day and we had to build our lives back. It’s a strange feeling to look all around you and realise that you have no family left. I ran away. I was found on the beach in August by a muggle family. I was dishevelled, broken and lost.
