Chapter 6
It was almost midnight by the time Blaise, Draco, and Hermione finally left Hagrid's hut. Hagrid had given each of them tight hugs and a package of cakes to eat since they barely even had dinner. The walk back to the castle was mostly silent, only the shuffling of feet and rustling of tress and bushes could be heard. It was as dark as black. Hermione slid her wand out and lit the tip with a simple, "Lumos."
Blaise shattered the silence and looked up. "So.... do you forgive us?" He directed the question at Hermione. AT once, Draco stiffened. He dragged his feet along the ground, marking scorches on the hard dirt.
"Do you think I forgive you?" Hermione asked quietly. "No, because.... Bellatrix tortured you...." Hermione stopped and spun to face Blaise. She tore her left sleeve up and pointed to the marking/scar on her arm. "You see this?" she whispered lowly. Blaise and Draco tensed the dangerous tone in her voice and stepped back staring at the scar, 'Mudblood.'
"You see this, right? She did this. Bellatrix did this to me. Can I forgive her? What do you think my answer is, Malfoy and Zabini?" she asked. Blaise hesitated, drawing his eyes from the scar to Hermione's streaked face. "No......." The boys were surprised when Hermione threw her head back and laughed lightly. "You're wrong. Yes, Bellatrix tortured me. She drew 'Mudblood' into my arm with a sword. She used the Cruciatus Curse on me. And yet, I still forgive her. I will never stop hating her, but I do forgive her."
"But she tortured you! She called you a Mudblood! And you still forgive her?" Draco blurted out. Hermione looked slowly at him, her chocolate brown eyes sharpening itself. "As if you've never called me a Mudblood? You've called that for six years, Malfoy." Silence. Draco removed his grey eyes from her and looked ahead.
"I'm sorry. I really am. I should never have done so." His voice sounded choked and tight. Blaise moved to his mate's side and awkwardly patted him. "Erm......." Hermione moved swiftly to his side as well. She was shocked at Draco's face, which held tears running down. Silent tears that stained his face like blood, but it wasn't dark red; it was crystal clear.
"Draco, I'm sorry... I forgive you, you know that. I forgive you for all the times you've done cruelness to my friends and I, especially me because I'm a Mudblood," she said softly. Draco turned his head to look at her. "Please, don't call yourself that. How can you call yourself that so carelessly?" He flung his arms around her and hugged Hermione tightly. "I'm happy you forgive me. I really am. Thank you."
Blaise stood to the side as the two of them hugged. Then he spoke up. "We should head back now, you know. It's probably past midnight. The professors will be looking for us for sure." Draco and Hermione broke apart and smiled awkwardly.
The group trudged back to the castle silently. From far away, you could've though it was the Golden Trio walking together, at peace. But no, they weren't the Golden Trio, but they were still at peace.
