Chapter 2
Her chocolate brown orb eyes traveled across the horizon as the sun began to set. The colors of gold, orange and pink clashed together to create one beautiful sight, and to top it off, the golden rays along with the fiery ball set down to the mountains.
Her face was dried, body drained of tears, eyes redder then ever. Her heart was Godric knows where, shattered into millions of pieces and thinking it could never be healed again, not even with the strongest love potion on Earth. And then a face wove itself into her mind without permission. Draco Malfoy, his grey eyes gleaming with all it's coldness gone, replaced with a warm light.
Hermione shook her head quickly, brown hair bobbing around. Why was she even thinking about him? He was her enemy for years straight, a follower of Voldemort, the Slytherin prince! Yet she couldn't help thinking that the war must've changed him. After all, you can't be the same forever, right? she thought to herself.
She raised her eyes up again, and saw that the sun had fully set and in it's place was a dark midnight blue sky, stars barely out.
"Granger," a male voice almost growled, laced with impatience for some reason. Hermione, startled, look up from her trance and saw Draco Malfoy, and place a steady scowl on her face. He had the same scowl on his face. "Are you coming or not?" "Coming where? I didn't know you were going to take me on a date, Malfoy," she said. Draco snorted. "As if. Mcgonagall told me to come get you. She's god damn worried since it's dark out now." "Why not get Harry or even Ginny? Why you?" "House unity," he growled. "Oh, well, I'll come in a few minutes. Bye." Hermione turned back to the sky, wishing he would go away.
However, she was surprised when she didn't hear the leaving pattering of feet. She look up again and scowled a second time when she saw Draco staying rooted to the spot next to her. Annoyed, she asked, "Malfoy, I thought I ask you to leave? Politely and even with a bye?" He shrugged. "It's a free place. I don't want to leave yet. Wanted to make sure you'll be safe going back."
Hermione was surprised. "Wait, what did you just say?" "I don't repeat things a second time. You either hear it or not," Draco said, looking at the sky. Hermione quickly got up to her feet. She stumbled on her clumsy feet from sitting too long and fell straight into the arms of Draco Malfoy.
Draco caught Hermione in his arms, surprised. They looked into each other's eyes for a minute, his striking grey ones piercing into her chocolate brown orbs. Lighting crackled between them as both stay still, Hermione's arms around his neck and Draco's arms around her petite waist.
Then the two of them untangle themselves and quickly pulled apart. Hermione looked everywhere but him and Draco avoided her eyes, looking at the sky. "Are you going to repeat yourself?" Hermione asked again, breaking the silence like glass. "I told you, Granger, I don't repeat things a second time." "Fine," the girl huffed. She bent down and started picking up her books, expecting Draco to leave. However, he still didn't and crouched down, picking up Hermione's bag and putting her things in it gently. Hermione was shocked and stared at him as he did so.
Draco straightened up and handed Hermione her bag and saw he staring at him. He smirked at her and was like, "What, am I too attractive all of a sudden? Can't stop staring at me?" Hermione blushed slightly and looked away, taking her bag. "Well, we best be going now," she mumbled. "Uh-huh."
The two of them walked across the courtyard and into the castle through the side doors. Students were just filing into the Great Hall for dinner so they weren't late. Draco and Hermione exchanged brief glances and saw the thanks in each others eyes. Hermione gave him a curt nod and quickly hurried away to her own House.
Draco stared at Hermione's retreating form, marveling her beautiful brown hair and slender body. Oh my Salazar, what am I thinking? he cursed himself and tore his eyes away and headed to the Slytherin table. He saw Hermione slid into an empty seat next to Weaslette and smirked.
"Heyyyy, Drakey," a smirking voice drawled. Pansy Parkinson slid into the seat next to him and placed a hand on his leg. "How's my little Drakey-wakey?" she purred. Disgusted and annoyed, Draco pulled away from her and used a napkin to shoo Pansy's hand away. "Get away from me, Parkinson," he snapped. His mate, Blaise laughed at him as he held a spoonful of steaming potatoes. "Damn you, Zabini," Draco muttered and quickly got up. He walked over to Blaise's side and sat down next to him, whacking him on the head after he did so.
Pansy frowned. "What's wrong, honey pie?" Draco gagged at her. "Just shut up and let me enjoyed my dinner," he growled. "Oh, Drakey, don't be like that." She leaned over and gave him a sloppy and desperate kiss. Draco, choking, leaned back and quickly wiped a napkin over his mouth over and over again until he couldn't breathe. A laughing Blaise sat next to him and he smacked him on the shoulder.
"Get lost, Parkinson," he managed to gasp out. Pansy frowned and with a hurt look on her pug face, headed over to her girlfriends.
"That was... memorable," Blaise remarked. "Don't you even dare, Zabini," Draco muttered, shoving a some food into his mouth. He quickly glanced up to the Gryffindor table and saw Granger looking at him. As soon as he looked at her, she turned her head swiftly away that put a confuse look on Draco's face.
Why was she looking at me? he thought to himself.
