Chapter 15
The halls were empty and cold. Hermione wrapped her robes tighter around her slender body as she walked. She arrived at the stairs. The second she set both foot on the top step, the stairs shifted and moved right, the other stairs underneath shifted and moved too. Hermione groaned, waiting for it to stop. The stairs she was standing on clanged against the right and froze. She started walking down again. She turned left and started walking down the corridor. She came across a large portrait of a bowl of fruit. Hermione bent down and started tickling the pear. It squirmed and laughed until it became a door handle. She took hold of the handle, turned and opened the door, climbing in. The door fluttered close behind her as Hermione straightened and brush a bit of dirt of her robes. Then she look up and froze. Sitting on a chair talking to some house-elves, was Draco Malfoy.
A house-elf scurried over to Hermione, who was still frozen. "Hello Miss! How can I help you today, Miss?" the house-elf squeaked, tugging on the bottom hem of Hermione's robes. Hermione shook her head and looked down as Draco looked up. "Um, what? Oh, r-right. Yeah. Erm... I miss dinner so I got hungry. I mean breakfast! Yeah, I miss breakfast and uh..." she stuttered, flustered and trailing off as she caught Draco's eye. He had an amused look on his face. The house-elf nodded happily. "Right you are, Miss! Some food coming, Miss!" The elf scurried off and a bunch of other elves began preparing a large platter of food. Draco ushered the elves around him off and stood up. He whispered something in the elves who were preparing Hermione's food something, then straightened and started walking toward Hermione, who was frozen once again and staring at him.
"We meet again, Granger," Draco drawled, pushing back his white blonde hair. Hermione bit her lip. "I suppose so," she muttered. "What are you doing here anyway?" she asked him, regaining her confidence slowly. "I miss breakfast too, you see, so I asked the elves if we could have our breakfast together." He paused, then said, "Why don't we have a morning breakfast picnic?" Hermione arched a brow. "Are you asking me on a date, Malfoy?" Draco's pale cheeks flushed pink slightly. "W-what? 'Course not, just a nice breakfast with each other." "Mhm, sure," Hermione said, smiling.
Five house-elves scurried over to them, carrying a large basket covered with a white blanket neatly folded on top. "We have your food, Miss and Sir!" they squeaked, holding the basket up. Draco took hold of the basket and smiled at the elves. "Thanks a lot." "Yes, thank you," Hermione says, smiling fondly at the elves. They all beamed and bowed low. "Of course, Miss and Sir! Anytime, Miss and Sir!"
Draco gestured to the entrance door with his chin. "Go on." Hermione blushed slightly and walked over, opening the door and climbing out. Draco climbed out after her and Hermione took hold of the basket as he did so. The pale boy straightened up and brushed dirt of his robes and closed the door which formed back into a pear. He took the basket from Hermione, carrying it in his arms and smiled at her. Hermione smiled back. "Well, let's go then. We can eat outside," Draco said, starting to walk toward the entrance Hall. Hermione followed him, an amused smile playing at her lips as she walked.
