Chapter 12
Hermione burst into the Room of Requirement after a couple attempts of pacing around angrily to open it. She kicked the door shut and fell onto a clump of furry cushions. Burying her face in her arms, she couldn't stop the flow of tears that kept coming like a stream of water.

Why did this have to happen to me? she thought. Hermione's body racked with sobs, damping her shirt and making her brown hair being plastered to the sides of her face.

"Granger?" a male voice called out. "Granger?"

From the slight shadows stepped Draco Malfoy, taking big steps toward Hermione. Hermione looked up and when she saw Draco, crawled back as if in fear.

"If you're here to insult me, then go away, Malfoy! I don't need any more harassing especially from you!" she cried.

"Look, Granger, I'm not going to insult you or anything. Hey, look, what Weasel did was wrong, okay? I just wanted to make sure you were alright," he said.

"What do you care? You're a pure-blood and I'm just a lowly mudblood, he's right. I don't need your pity!" Hermione wanted him to go away, but for some reason, a small part of her wanted him to stay and hold on.

Draco approached her slowly, taking cautious steps. Hermione didn't move, but stay staring at Draco. When the blonde hair boy reached her, he knelt down and placed a hand on her shoulder, looking the witch in the eyes. Hermione flinched at the coldness of his hands but accepted the fact that he was trying to make her feel better. She wiped at her face quickly, but all she had attempted was to make her face even more messy. Then a clean white handkerchief flew in front of her. As soon as she looked up, Draco was wiping her face with the handkerchief gently.

They looked at each other until Hermione broke the gaze, looking away. Draco cleared his throat, sensing the awkwardness between them. He drew his hand away.

Hermione looked at him with a small sadness on her face.

"I like your touch," she whispered.

Draco froze. "What?"

"I said, I like your touch," she repeated.

"What do you mean?" He knew what it meant, but wanted to hear her voice again.

"I'm not going to repeat myself, Malfoy. I said it twice and I don't repeat things." She couldn't help but smile a little, remembering that those were the same words that he had spoken earlier. Draco broke into a smile as well.

Hermione gasped. "What?" Draco asked. "That's the first time I ever saw you smile! So you can smile!" Draco immediately drop his smile and wove his face into his usual signature smirk. Hermione pouted playfully, making the Slytherin Prince's heart melt. Salazar, I need to get a hold of myself, he scolded himself mentally.

"So, uh, are you okay?" he asked casually. "As good as after your ex best friend insulted you in front of the entire school, yeah, I'm okay," Hermione answered sarcastically. Draco chuckled lightly. "Yeah, I know how it feels, but not the insulting thing. The breaking up part with, well, Astoria."

"Why did you guys break up anyway?" Hermione asked. When Draco's face darkened, she quickly added, "Not that you have to tell me. I know, I'm nosy." Draco shook his head. "No, you're not nosy. Basically, she cheated on me." Hermione raised an eyebrow. He went on. "She said I was never fun enough for her and thought me as too boring and everything . So she just cheated on me and then broke up with me. I mean, I was upset, yeah, but like, I got over it now anyway. I like someone else now."

"Oh...." Hermione's heart had fluttered when he said he like someone else now, but she doubt it was her. After all, she was just a muggle-born and he was a pure-blood. She blushed a little. Draco smiled. "I'm sorry about what happened with Weasel and everything. He should never have called you that, that word." "Like you never?" "I made a lot of mistakes, I'm sorry, okay?" Hermione smiled a little. "You know I can forgive you." "Real?" "Real." "Okay, I know why everyone calls you the Golden witch now. You're.... nice." Hermione's smile grew. She guess that that would be the closest Draco would ever give as a compliment to her. "Oh, well, thanks then." "Yeah."
