Maple Thresa woke to the sounds of thunder and rain pounding the windmills' already-battered roof. she looked at her watch; it said the time was 5:47.
"uuugh..." she groaned.
Maple hated rain. and water. basically anything that made her wet. her bedroom was on the top floor of the windmill, so she usually got soaked in the mornings.
so, today she awoke to a large puddle on her soggy blankets.
"darn it."
she sat up and proceeded to tip her bed (it was actually more of a smallish cot) sideways and dump all the water and her wet blankets into a pile.
she went downstairs to get new ones.

the spiral staircase was slipperier then Maple expected.
luckily, she didn't fall.

soon, she had grabbed fresh sheets from her moms' room and crept back up the stairs to her bed. it was already covered in rainwater.
"aargh! we REALLY need to get those holes fixed, they're driving me NUTS"

suddenly, Maple heard a noise. it was half screech, half groan, and VERY CREEPY. Maple froze.
she heard it again, this time from behind her. she turned just in time to see a black thing about the size of a large rat scurry under her bed. then, she smelled something AUFUL. she looked under the bed v e r y s l o w l y...
two small red eyes stared into her pretty hazel ones.
