The tang of cat blood wafted through the air, filling the medicine den with a wretched smell. A yowl sounded outside, "Echostar is dead!" 'No, that's not possible. She had 5 lives left!' Silverspot thought. Leaping to her paws, Silverspot called her apprentice and they dashed out of the den to see Talonfoot, standing with blood-covered paws in the middle of the camp. Silverspot heard a gasp from her apprentice as blood seeped into the ground. Shaking his head in what seemed to be sorrow, Talonfoot began to speak. "I met with her to discuss strange scents on the border, but she was attacked by a fox on the way there. I fought it off, but it was too late. She had lost too much blood. Her dying words were 'You shall lead this clan to victory,'" 'But... she must have had an incredibly fatal wound to have lost all of her lives...' she thought. As he spoke to a crabby warrior named Mosstooth, Silverspot thought of her leader and hung her head in sorrow. "Take us to the body," she sighed. "We must examine her and bring her back. Come, Icepaw. Talonfoot, lead the way." They exited the camp with Talonfoot bringing up the rear. "What took you so long?" Silverspot muttered. "I just had to stop Silentpaw from taking too much fresh-kill," He replied. Continuing on through the territory, the smell of blood became overwhelming. 'It must have been a hard fight,' thought Silverspot. Pushing through some tall ferns, the three cats came into a clearing, in the middle of which laid the lifeless, limp body of Echostar, fresh blood still pouring from her wounds. Her blind, multicolored eyes were staring without seeing, her gaze clouded. Talonfoot lifted up the body and the three cats set off back to camp.
