The Gift of Love

Chapter 14
The way to go at this challenge wasn't to ask him to stop calling my friends Mudbloods. If I did that, he would just say he would do it but then, he would never do it. I had to give him the gift of love. The trait that was missing in his heart.

"Hey Abe", I said. "Hey. How did you do on that Charms exam? I thought it was pretty hard", he asked. "I got an exceeds expectations", I said proudly. "Nice job. I only got a 70%. I barely scraped an acceptable", he said. "I mean, you could've got a troll?"

Our conversations that week were all very cheerful and fun. I felt like if I talked in that tone, he would realize what love really is. Soon, he became more opened up and cheerful. I thought whenever it was time to test, I would win it. I would get my friendship back.

That next day was a very queer one. "Hey Rose", said Eleanor, "Wanna go play Wizarding Chess together?" I had no memory of Eleanor ever wanting to play Wizarding Chess. "When's the last time you've wanted to play chess?" I asked. "Since we were friends", she answered.

Now I understood. Eleanor was my friend again. Abe had been nice to her. I was so happy. I was much happier than I had been when I got the position of keeper. I had gotten my friends back.
