Arriving and Sorting
Chapter 2
I stepped off the train and followed Hagrid to the boats. I climbed into an empty one and faced Hogwarts. Two more people climbed into the boat. I knew that they were staring at me but I ignored them. I didn't need to feel any more self conscious and nervous than I already was. As we pulled to a stop near the castle I stood there speechless awestruck by it's beauty. Eventually a teacher came out to hoard the stragglers inside and I reluctantly followed. As soon as I reached the inside of the castle I knew I was going to love drawing the scenery here. The walls were all decked out in pictures and were pretty shades of dark and light colors. When one of the pictures waved at me I waved back eagerly. The ghosts started to float through the walls and join us. I talked to a few of them and whipped out my notebook. I jotted down their answers and made sure to take quick sketches of their appearances before they floated away. We entered the Great Hall and waited for our names to be called. As I waited I looked around the room with awe. I sketched a few drawings before my name was called up. I nervously walked up the stage and brushed the hair out of my face which quickly proved to be a mistake. My scar was now visible to everyone. They all laughed and pointed as I tried to hide my face with the Sorting Hat that was on my head. The Sorting Hat waited a few minutes while I quickly drew it's appearance. After I was done the hat shouted "BETTER BE...... HUFFLEPUFF". I knew what was going to happen before it happened. I'm weird like that. From the talk I've heard about the house most people don't like it, but I was super happy to be placed in a house and that the hat didn't shriek, "WHAT'S THIS MUGGLE DOING HERE? SHE'S NOT ABLE TO LEARN MAGIC!". As I walked towards the Hufflepuff table they beckoned me forth and I did as I was told. I immediately saw that they were not the faint of heart and all looked very tough in one way. I watched as the others demonstrated spells and charms for us while we ate. I was amazed by how easy they made it look. I looked around the hall. I saw the girl who had entered my compartment and went back out laughing. She had written something on her cheek and was in a ball fake crying. It took me a minute to realize that she was mocking me. I turned around quickly and finished my food. As I waited to leave I could have sworn that someone was watching me, but when I turned around to look no one was there.
