Chapter 9
After I gave Draco the box of Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans, he seemed much happier, though he still didn't participate it our conversations. We soon arrived at Hogwarts as Draco had thought. We all trooped out of the trains listening for the usual call of "Firs' years! Firs' years over here! Firs' years!" and no sooner had we left the train then we heard Hagrid calling. "Alrigh' Harry, Ron? how 'bout you Hermione, an' Ginny? An' you too Neville, an' Luna?" we all answered that we were fine before being swept away towards the carriages, pulled as ever by thestrals. I noticed Draco looking rather glum and it took me a moment to realize why, Hagrid had acted as if Draco wasn't there. Was this how everyone was going to treat him? Rather than be horrible to him, act like he didn't exist? Perhaps they were scared that he would lash out and use some dark magic against them. Clearly they didn't know that Draco had changed.

We all got into a carriage together, the moment Ginny closed the door behind her, the carriage began to move toward the great black castle. Once we got inside the Great Hall, we (Meaning I) bade Draco goodbye, we continued along the hall until we came to the Ravenclaw table. I left Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny and Neville and went to sit down between Alexis Cameron, a girl in my year, and a blonde boy who looked as though he must be in his fourth or fifth year. I watched Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny and Neville take their seats at the Gryffindor table. Then I let my eyes travel ever the hall. The Great Hall showed no sign of the Battle of Hogwarts. My eyes fell to rest on a girl with thick, curly auburn hair and blue-gray eyes sitting at the other end of the Ravenclaw table. The same girl who was taunting me outside of Kings Cross Station. I was about to stand up to go say something to her, though I don't know what I would have said. At that very moment Prof- I mean, Headmistress McGonagall walked out of the chamber on the side of the hall followed by a line of scared looking first years. I watch the sorting silently, clapping along with everyone else at the Ravenclaw table when a first year joined us, my eyes darted over to the girl with thick, curly auburn hair.

After the sorting, our golden plates were filled with food. It was a little lonely, with all my friends in other houses. I did my best not to to look over at Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny or Neville because I was sure I would see them laughing their heads of and I would be over here feeling even more lonely than before. After the last plate of treacle tart had disappeared, everyone headed for their dormitories. I had just left the Great Hall when someone behind me called, "Hey Luna wait up!" I turned around and for the second time that day it was Draco behind me. He was fighting to get to me through the crowd. When he finally was standing beside me, I could hear him panting. "So, what did you want to talk about?" I asked after Draco had caught his breath. His cheeks went slightly pink. "I just wanted to... to thank you for making me feel... included, back there on the Hogwarts Express." Draco said looking anywhere but at me. I felt myself blushing a bit too. Why was I blushing, he should be thanking me. I saved his neck, if I hadn't stood up for him, the others probably would have thrown him out. I guess I was just not used to Draco being so nice to me, nor I to him. "It was no problem." I said calmly, as we started walking towards the marble staircase. "Well, I go down here." Draco said, gesturing to the passage leading to the dungeons. We said our goodbyes and good nights, and then he went down to the dungeon and I continued to climb the stairs toward the Ravenclaw common room.
