I woke up the next day feeling as if I hadn't slept at all. I dragged myself out of bed and got dressed. I had been trying to get my pants to fit over my head for a few minutes before I had realized my mistake. After I had gotten dressed correctly, I dragged my feet down to the Great Hall. Malfoy was already there, sitting by himself at the Slytherin table as always. I looked around and saw Luna talking animatedly to a girl with long caramel colored hair and blue eyes. But... Luna didn't have any friends in her own house did she? Last she had told me she didn't.

That day, my mind wasn't on school work. It was with Luna and that girl. Why did Luna suddenly have a friend? She had told me that she didn't like any of the girls in her dormitory, yet, that girl had looked Luna's age. My thoughts and questions were whizzing around my brain trying to understand.

"Neville!" Harry said loudly. "What?" I asked. We were in Herbology, my favorite class. But I hadn't been able to think about venomous tentacula, I was thinking about the thing that was occupying every inch of my mind. "Mr. Longbottom, DO pay attention!" Professor Sprout snapped. She had never been angry at me before, she had never had a reason to be either. I was one of her best students. "As I was saying, venomous tentacula attaches the suckers on the underside of their leaves to some part of their enemy and suck. If it is living and has blood, eventually blood will travel through the suckers and the venomous tentacula will know that it's job is complete. It will then inject their enemy with venom and then leave the enemy alone.

I was hardly listening, I had never been less interested in a Herbology lesson. After Herbology I watched Draco while eating at lunch. He was by himself. Every once in a while my eyes flickered to Luna who was, once again, talking the girl with blue eyes and caramel colored hair. When lunch was over I caught up with Luna and her friend outside the Great Hall. "Hi Luna! Who's your... friend?" I asked, unsure if it really was a friend. "Oh hi Neville! This is Makayla, we share a dormitory!" Said Luna eagerly. "Do you? I thought that you didn't really get along with the girls in your dormitory very well." I said vaguely. "Well, it's just that we didn't really talk much so I didn't get a chance to get to know her!" Luna said, "Oh, and Makayla this is Neville!" Luna added. I stuck out my hand and Makayla shook it. "It was nice to meet you Neville but we've got to go, we'll be late for Potions." She said glancing down at her watch. Luna smiled at me then departed with Makayla.

I walked back to the common room, it was my free period. I sat down near a window where I could see the quidditch pitch in the distance. The Hufflepuff quidditch team was having what looked like tryouts. I watched as the keeper stood guard in front of the goal hoops and as one by one a line of chasers were sent up to try to get the quaffle past the keeper. I wondered faintly why the Hufflepuff quidditch team was having tryouts in the middle of the day when I realized it was dark. Too dark for lessons to still be happening. "Neville!" Ron exclaimed coming into the common room. "You missed Defense Against the Dark Arts! And dinner!" He said looking shocked. Harry came in behind him, followed by Hermione who looked worried. "Neville, you've been out of it all day." She said wearily sitting down beside me and handing a note from the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. "She said to give you this." Hermione said. I opened up the note and read.

Dear Mr. Longbottom,
I understand that you have missed my class today. Why don't you come to my office at 7:30 tomorrow and we can talk about why that is.
