Chapter 16
After charms I'd had two classes with the Slytherins, and Malfoy. I was very disgruntled at dinner that night even though Malfoy had been nothing but polite. That was what angered me, he was trying so hard to be kind. It felt like he was hiding something, maybe he was planning to follow in Voldemort's footsteps. This thought made sense, or did it? I watched Malfoy all through dinner. He was sitting alone eating at the Slytherin table, the only time he interacted with others was to pass plates of food down the table. He must be plotting his rise to power, I thought wildly.
That night I hardly got any of my homework done. My mind was spinning with thoughts from today. Malfoy following in Voldemort's footsteps, the bell being late, the Battle of Hogwarts. I didn't know what to think. I finally settled on not thinking about any of them and focusing on my Charms homework. I opened my textbook and began reading, looking for answers.
The Confusion Charm causes a person to become bewildered, I was certainly bewildered, what was Malfoy planning?
It can make someone unknowing of certain facts, I was unknowing if Malfoy was even planning anything, was he?
It can cause people to think things that aren't true, that must be what was happening, I was thinking something that wasn't true, right?
I was tired and confused. I came to the conclusion that I had been hit with a Confusion Charm in Charms class and started putting my books in my bag. I probably shouldn't do my homework if I was under the effects of a Confusion Charm.
I was tired of thinking, I thought as I walked slowly up the spiral staircase toward my dormitory. I hit myself hard on the head. Then stop thinking! I told myself. Ugh, how do I stop thinking?
I fell onto my bed and grabbed my pajamas from under my pillow. I quickly snatched Trevor as he tried to hop away and placed him back in his tank on my nightstand. I pulled on my pajamas and then climbed under the covers of my bed. I fell asleep almost immediately.
I watched as Malfoy placed his feet carefully on footprints already made in deep snow. "What are you doing?" I called to him from dry ground. "I'm following in Voldemort's footsteps!" He yelled back. I turned around and saw a cracked bell behind me. Professor Flitwick was casting the Confusion Charm on it, "What are YOU doing?" I asked, "Trying to fix the bell, it's been broken since the war." he replied. I turned back to Malfoy but he was gone, and so was the snow. Instead I was facing Hogwarts. But it was destroyed, and flashes of light were flying out of windows, the war.
I woke with a start. it was only a dream, I thought before drifting back off to sleep.
