"Today's potions!" I told Beth. "I heard Professor Brown used to be an Auror and now works here!" Beth said excitedly. "Why doesn't he teach defense against the dark arts?" "Apparently he got an outstanding N.E.W.T. in potions while he only got exceeds expectations N.E.W.T.S in every other subject." I was surprised to see Beth knew all of this. "Welcome students", Professor Brown said as soon as everyone had entered the classroom, "My name is Professor Brown. I was formerly an Auror. I was actually head of the Auror office. Now, I have come to teach potions." "What is that potion over there?" someone named Brett Coleman asked. "That right there, is the Cure for Boils potion", Professor Brown said, "In your third lesson, you will have to brew that very potion. Now, no time for questions. If you have any questions, come to me in my office. I am open from 6-8. From now on, you will remember that as Happy Hours. Today is an introduction day. Your assignments are a survey, so I can get to know you better, a type of potions quiz, and an introduction essay, which I will go over the prompt shortly." He told us about different types of potions. He told us what they do, and mentioned how hard they are to make. He mentioned the useful ones and the not-so-useful potions. The whole time, Beth and I took notes. Some people watched us do that and took notes too. Professor Brown said, "For your introduction essay, you will work in pairs. Elizabeth, Rachel, and Amanda together." Then, he listed all the pairs. I was happy I got paired with Beth. I had also heard good things about Amanda. Apparently, so many people wanted to be friends with her, but she liked to go solo. I hoped I could make friends with her. Professor Brown gave us sheets of paper with the essay prompt on it. I walked towards the common room next to Amanda.
