In the first to sixth years, Hermione and Draco scorn each other and Draco calls Hermione a Mudblood. At one point Draco almost handed Harry, Ron and Hermione to the Death Eaters, if it had not been for Dumbledore and McGonagall who saved them.
Nobody would expect Draco and Hermione to show each other friendship in their early years. No one thought they were are good pair, anyway...... So why would they choose each other??
