They meet
Chapter 1
As Hermione Granger steps under the Sorting Hat, Professor Mcgonagall drops it onto her head and it shouts,
"GRYFFINDOR!!"
You can see the tiniest bit of disappointment on Draco Malfoy's smirking face as Hermione rushes to join the Gryffindor Table, where everyone there was cheering for her, including her new-made friends, Ron Weasley and Harry Potter, who were, like her, were Sorted into Gryffindor.
But when The Sorting Hat touches Draco's head, it is Slytherin's turn to cheer as Draco sits on their side of the Great Hall. Nobody knew either why Draco chose a Gryffindor Muggle-born, or why Hermione, a brave and Smart girl, would choose a Slytherin pure-blood.
Hermione and Draco show no signs of affection, but their friendships are a late one.
