It Isn't Always Fair: Dramione
Chapter 6
"Granger."
She turned around, brushing a strand of dark hair out of her eyes. She met someone's grey eyes, suddenly not able to talk. She internally punched herself as Hermione found her face reddening as Draco held up a book.
"This fell out of your bag." He said, not meeting her eyes. Their fingers touched as Hermione took it from him.
"Thanks." she murmured, adjusting the bag's strap on her shoulder.
Draco watched her leave. Her hair swayed in a rhythm as she exited the room; blinking quickly, he tried to get the image of her out of his head. But he couldn't.
--------------------------
Hermione walked down a side corridor to the library. She was particularly bored that day; Ginny was with Harry, Luna an Neville were probably talking about exotic plants, and Ron- well, Ron was snogging Lavender Brown. She stalked towards the large room, clenching her teeth as tears brimmed her eyes. Ron was NEVER to be forgiven. She stopped at the corner of a small, side corridor, tears dripping down her face.
"You okay?" asked a voice. She quickly turned around, scowling at the blonde who now looked at her, portraying what one might even call worry.
"I'm fine." she clenched her fists as he walked towards her, eyebrows furrowed.
"No, you clearly aren't." he answered, taking a last step so that they were a foot apart. He stared at her thoughtfully, any sign of annoyance gone. "Weasley?" Draco asked. Hermione looked away, nodding slightly.
"He's a complete, spoiled git." Hermione looked up at Malfoy with tear filled eyes. "It's not-" she shook her head, tears dripping down her face, cutting off in the middle of her sentence.
"Life isn't fair." Draco whispered in her ear as she embraced him. He held her as she shook with sobs; he felt her pain. He felt the feeling of something ripping apart inside. Every single time Draco had seen her with Weasley, he had felt it.
She pulled away, wiping the tears from her eyes. "Sorry." she mumbled, taking a few steps back. "I just-"
"It's fine. Draco said with a slight smile, causing Hermione to step forward the last few feet. She smiled through the tears running down her face; he lifted his arm, taking her hand, leaning forward and pressing his lips against hers.
Surprisingly, Hermione didn't pull away. She didn't move for the moments that he kissed her.
"Sorry." he said quietly, turning away abruptly afterwards.
"It's fine." she said with a half- smile, repeating the words that he had said to her. Draco lifted his other hand and grazed her cheek with his thumb, brushing the wet trails off of her skin. They stayed silent for a minute, not breaking eye contact.
Hermione had never felt so... happy wasn't the right word for it- she wasn't sure that any one word, or even sentence, or even paragraph- could describe the mix of emotions running through her head. Among others, sense of completion was definitely one of them.
She kissed him, this time. Draco could feel the gratitude- the joy- in what she did. Pansy was always blank; no emotion. He pulled her closer, holding her carefully as if one sudden movement could shatter the frail movement.
Hermione leaned against the wall behind her; Draco put one hand beside her head, the other still snaked around her waist. They pulled apart after a minute, foreheads still together.
"I don't really know what to say..." she whispered breathlessly, meeting his eyes. Draco gave a half- smile tucking a strand of dark hair behind her ear.
"Then don't."
