The Basic Rules of Football

Chapter 2
Here are the basic rules of football:

There are 22 total players on the field. If younger kids are playing the probably only 18. There are 11 players on each team and they both have one half of the field with a goal on either side of the whole field and a goalie. One team starts with the ball on the half line (usually decided between a coin toss) and the other team has to stand outside of a circle that surrounds the main area of where the ball starts. When the ref blows his/her whistle the game is on!! Both team attack using only there feet but cannot push each other down. They can only should each other. They can slide tackle too as long as they only hit the ball and the the other member of the team. There are positions that every team have. I bet you can guess how many there are . . . . . . . . correct there are 11 positions because there are 11 players!! The positions are:
1– Goalkeeper
2– Right Fullback
3– Left Fullback
4– Center Back
5– Center Back/Sweeper
6– Defending/Holding Midfielder
7– Right Midfielder/Winger
8– Central/Box-to-Box Midfielder
9– Striker
10– Attacking Midfielder/Playmaker
11– Left Midfielder/Winger
Every player is assigned one of those positions and usually stick with them throughout their soccer career. The goalkeepers are the only people allowed on the whole field to use their hands to touch the ball. I know that you know what the goal keepers job is but if you don't, do not fret because I will tell you!! The goalkeeper's job is to save the soccer ball from when people shoot. Yes they can use their hands but they are not allowed to use their hands outside the 18 yard box or AKA the penalty box. The ball has to run over the line of the goal fully before it is successfully counted as a goal. If it does not roll of the line fully then that is a great save by the goalie!! Now lets say one girl named Sophie on defense tried to tackle another girl from the other team named Susanna that was about to shoot but Sophie accidentally hit Susanna instead of the ball so that would call for a penalty in the 18 yard box and that is why it is called the penalty box. Then a girl on Susanna's team (it can be anyone even Susanna) would take a shot from the penalty line that is in the penalty box and everyone else has to stay outside the line of the penalty box. The ref will say to the girl "Whenever you are ready" and then once she kicks everybody runs in in case there is a rebound. The goalie cannot step off the line until the ball is kick but she/he can move side to side on it. The goalie will try to save that shot and if he/she stops it the no goal if not then congrats to the other team!!
Now lets say that a boy was disagreeing to the ref about a play that he thought was unfair and using cuss words in the process. The ref would most likely give him a yellow card which means a warning. Lets say again the same boy had another disagreement with ref and sad bad words again then the ref would give him a red card which would mean that he would be suspended from the whole game and would not be able to play.
The object of the game of football is to get more goals then the other team.
