written by Dora Scamander

Continue from Book 1 as Xanthe sets out on an adventure to find the wishing particle, which was once a part of the Philosopher's stone. Can they find it, and change Xanthe's fate of being a werewolf forever? (I'd advise you check out Book 1 before reading this, so you understand what's going on)

The Decision

Chapter 4
There was a silence. My head was whirling. The wolf still looked at me with those beautiful yellow eyes.
Then: "Yah, yah! Get out of here!"
I turned quickly, to see Aster rushing into the clearing, her wand held out in front of her. The wolves turned to face her, growling low in their throats.
I jumped to my feet. "No, Aster, no! Stop! STOP!"
Aster looked at me, and then halted, a fierce expression on her face. "Xanthe, these wolves -"
"Are friends. Put your wand away."
Aster stared at me for another moment or two, and then slowly put her wand away.
I turned to the leader wolf. "Can you... can you please tell your wolves to let her pass? She's my friend. She can... she can help us get rid of the magi-archaeologists." I had made my decision.
We thank you, the leader wolf said, and then he barked lightly at the wolves. They retreated.
Aster looked at me, her bright eyes flashing. "O.K, Xanthe, what, by Merlin's tracksuit pants, is going on?"
I couldn't help but grin. "Merlin's tracksuit pants?"

"So you're saying that the two of us are expected to go and stop a group of fully grown wizards from taking over the forest?" Aster said.
"Pretty much." I answered.
Aster paused. Then: "I like it." She said, and then added, "But the only thing I'm wondering is why we couldn't just go up to the school and ask the teachers to get rid of the archaeologists for us."
I sighed. "I know, but the leader wolf said that it wouldn't be right of us to go and tattle-tale and then expect to get the wishing particle as a reward." I paused. "And I suppose he's right."
Aster nodded. Then, like always, she punched her fist into her palm. "We can do this." She said. "I know we can."
I smiled ruefully. "Yes, but first we have to think about what exactly we are planning to do. For the first thing, where are we going to stay tonight? It's almost dark, and even if we made it back to the castle, I don't think we'd be exactly well received."
Aster pondered a moment, and then her eyes twinkled mischievously. "Why, we can stay here of course! How about it, Xanthe? A few nights living in the forbidden forest?" She sounded thoroughly excited.
I paused, and then shrugged. "Suits me." I said.
And so everything was decided.
