Lesson 8: Rabbits to Slippers
Chapter 8
~Inorganic and Organic Material
-Organic materials come from a living organism
-living things composed of organic and inorganic compounds
-Organic compound contains carbon
-Organic compounds: nucleic acids, sugars, fats, proteins, enzymes, and hydrocarbon fuels, or compounds that consist of only carbon-hydrogen bonds
-Inorganic compounds: salts, metals, and other substances composed of single elements or lacking a carbon-hydrogen bond. Main things are water and minerals
-Organic materials generally harder in TNFG bc they're more complex
-stronger resistance to unnatural change
~Rabbits
-small mammals
-Leporidae
-8-20" long
-ears can be 4" or longer
-strong hind legs
-commonly found in North America
-can also be found in Southeast Asia, Southwest Europe, on some parts of Africa and South America, and on some islands of Japan
-invasive
-live in groups, burrowing underground
-long, soft fur
-herbivores
-can be domesticated, have a slight affinity for magic
-can sense magic
-fur, liver, and feet used in potion making
~Slippers
-light shoes, worn indoors
-many types
-we're aiming for fuzzy ones with synthetic fur
- Fake furs can be made from acrylic polymers that are composed of chemicals derived from coal, air, water, petroleum, and limestone
-all inorganic compounds
-other fake furs can be made from organic material such as silk, wool, mohair, or cotton
- Fancier slippers than the ones we are aiming for can be made with cotton, suede, leather, or sheepskin and almost all slippers have a rubber bottom or sole
~The Transformation
-transfigures 1 rabbit to 1 slipper
-will need 2 rabbits
-Block:
Spell: Rabbits to Slippers
Incantation: Lepermuto (Leh-per-MOO-tow)
Wand Movement: Small twirl of the wand above the rabbit
Concentration: Low - Focus on details of desired slipper, esp. materials it is made out of
Willpower: Medium
-Concentrate on intended materials
-Possible backfires: solid slipper with no hole for foot, or a slipper with real rabbit hair
-remember your 2 feet curve different ways
~Origins
-completely unknown
-first use was 1792
~Assignments
-Mandatory quiz
-Extra credit essay
