The Book
Chapter 3
For the next year Lily worked really hard writing, reading, rereading, and editing her book.
“There” Lily sighed “All finished”
Lily’s hand shook like a pot in an earthquake as she hit the submit button. Her story was going to be published within 24 hours.
Lily asked her teacher, Mrs. Johnson, if it would be OK to bring in free copies of her book for the class. Her teacher smiled and told Lily that ¨it would be awesome if she brought in copies of her book.¨
The next week Lily brought in 26 copies, 25 for the class and 1 for the teacher. When Jerry got his copy he snorted with disgust.
¨Please like anyone would actually read your book!¨, Jerry snapped
¨That is quite enough Jerry¨, Mrs. Johnson demanded,¨and Lily I am sure your book is amazing¨
¨Thank you Mrs. Johnson¨, replied Lily who was red in the face. That day at lunch everyone in Lily´s E.L.A. class except for Jerry came up to Lily and asked her to sign their copies. So Lily spent most of lunch signing books.
Jerry couldn’t put the book down that night. He stayed up till 2:30am reading and rereading the book nonstop until there was nothing left to read. Jerry had started to regret bullying Lily for all those years. He realized that Lily’s talent was one-of-a-kind and should be respected, not turned down.
