Chapter 1
Ella Brennan ran lightly. She was late for charms again! It was her worst subject. She was afraid that Professor VIneburg would get angry, and she had already a bit. Well, she was certainly strict! And Emilia, her best friend, had told her to try harder. Well, she was!
Ella ran faster, and then immediately rammed into someone.
"Can you just please watch where you are going?" said the person who she had bumped into. A boy was standing there, frowning. He had dark brown hair, and hazel eyes.
"Uh, sorry," said Ella, but not sounding very sorry. "Well, I am late for charms you know! And why aren't you at charms anyway?" she enquired.
"Uh, because I have double lessons with Professor Von Graft," said the boy, sounding a bit awkward.
"What? You are so lucky! I love potions! It's my favourite subject!" said Ella wistfully. "I wish I could have double potions with you!"
"Oh, really?" asked the boy, looking surprised. "Well, I dunno. Um, anyway, my name's Felix."
"My name is Ella," said Ella. "Nice to meet you." Then she jumped. "Oh, I better really get going! I'm so late to charms! Bye!" And she sprinted away.
"No, no no!" said Ella to herself as she ran faster. "Charms is probably already ending!"
In a moment, Ella came upon the charms classroom, and crept inside. She wanted Professor Vineburg to see that she hadn't been late, and she had just been in the classroom the whole time. She was just about to secretly slip into her chair, when someone said, "Ella Brennan."
Ella turned her head so fast that her neck cricked.
"You're late again," sighed Professor Vineburg. "Ella - oh why?"
"Sorry so much!" apologised Ella. "It's just that I was doing my -"
"That doesn't matter," said Professor Vineburg sternly. "I just don't want you to be late again, or there will be. . ."
"Consequences?" said Ella.
Professor VIneburg smiled slightly. "Yes and no," she said. "Well, I suppose I should just tell you what we discussed in this lesson, and then you. . ." Professor Vineburg rambled on about the lesson, and Ella thought she would never stop.
It was dinner time and Ella had just settled down to eating potatoes, sausages, and tomatoes, when she saw a Gryffindor boy walking over to her, and then Ella just realised that it was Felix.
"Hi," he said. "Did you manage not to get into much trouble?"
"What?" asked Ella blankly. "Et in routble or hat?" Her mouth was full of potato. She swallowed, and then said, "Get in trouble for what?"
Felix rolled his eyes. "For charms! You were late!"
"Oh, sorry, yeah, I didn't get int trouble at all, except I might have to have some consequences."
"Oh," said Felix. "Anyway, I AM hungry!" And he dived for a drumstick.
Dinner was soon over, and then they had pudding. After that, Ella trudged back together with Felix Emilia.
"You got into trouble again!" said Emilia. She always got grumpy with Ella when she was getting into trouble.
"I only got consequences!" shouted back Ella.
"And those consequences might be bad!" Emilia shouted fiercely.
"Oh girls, stop it!" said Felix. He had been introduced to Emilia before, and he and Ella and Emilia had became quick friends.
"Yeah, stop it Emilia!" said Ella, glaring at her friend.
Emilia opened her mouth to argue, but Ella stormed up ahead.
They reached the Gryffindor common room, and Ella was too angry at Emilia that she didn't stay to do her homework for charms, (which Emilia thought was very stupid) and went to bed instead.
When Felix had done his homework for potions, he went up to the boy's dormitory, and then Emilia.
Outside moonlight shone brightly through the window. All was quiet.
