1) The Story Starts Tonight

Chapter 2
------Alex------- 1776, New York City
The city of New York is larger than I thought possible. I'm spending my first week here just exploring it. The streets sprawl out ahead of me as I step out of my apartment building. I'm thirsty tonight, so I'm just heading to the tavern. I suppose a normal person would be lonely, but I've never really had friends. There's nothing to compare it to. A few people mingle about, but I push past them. A bald, dark-skinned man walks into the bar ahead of me. He could be just the person I'd been hoping to meet.

I step over the threshold, sliding next to him at the bar. "Hi, I'm Alexander Hamilton. Sorry, but are you Aaron Burr?" He nodded. "Fantastic! I've been wanting to meet you for a while! I heard your name at Princeton, I was seeking an accelerated course of study when I got sort of out of sorts with a buddy of yours-" he gave me a nervous and suspicious look. "Geez, no one died! I maayyy have punched him. It's a blur, sir. He handles the financials?" Burr looked me over again. What's with the judgment? He couldn't have been more than a year older than me. "You punched the bursar?" "YES! I just wanted to do what you did, graduate quickly, because I really want to join the revolution! HOW did you do it?" he dropped his head silently. "It was my parents' dying wish before they passed."

Wait WAT

"You're an orphan! OF COURSE! I'm an orphan. I wish there was a war, we could prove we're worth more than anyone bargained for." he stared at me AGAIN, as if appraising how much I could help him. "Can I buy you a drink?" Free booze? Heck, why not. "That would be nice." "While we're talking let me offer you some free advice. Talk less, smile more. Don't let them now what you're agaist of what you're for." Wait a sec, he's tellling me to shut up. "You can't be serious." Burr shook his head, as if laughing at my innocence. If he knew what I'd been through- "You want to get ahead? Fools who run their mouths off wind up dead." I was about to argue with him, but three guys strode up to us, almost like it'd been choreographed.

I could tell it was gonna get messy between Burr and Hamilton. Laff, Herc and I had gone out for a few drinks tonight, like we did every night. Revolution is messy, but at least we have fun doing it. "Um, guys," I said, "I think there's some trouble at the bar. Burr is trying to make another one chill." Laff's eyes sparkled with excitement. "It's SHOWTIME, gentlemen!" he said, standing with a flourish. We followed suit, approaching them while Burr was imparting his wisdom. Quietly, we got in positon. Once Burr finished his line about being dead, we struck.

"WHAT TIME IS IT?" I asked turning to the small crowd
"SHOWTIME!" yelled Herc and Laff
Burr gave us the evil eye, gesturing as if we were a great example. "Like I said"
"SHOWTIME SHOWTIME WHAT!" Laff stepped forward and held a hand out to Hamilton. "Marquis de Lafayette, it sounds like you should hang with us, we all want a revolution." Hamilton shook his hand. "Alexander Hamilton. Nice to meet you." Herc threw an arm around his shoulder and began pulling him over to our table. "Nice to meet you Alex, I'm Hercules Mulligan. You'll be sitting with us." I pulled up a chair and sat across from it. He grabbed his drink and sat down, closing his eyes to take a big sip. "Hi Alex I'm-" we locked gazes, he had nice eyes, my words turned to fluff "Hi, I'm Ga-JOHN LAURENS. I'm John Laurens. It's really cool to meet you and stuff." WHAT IS HAPPENING TO MY BRAIN??????

----Alex----
These guys seem pretty cool, they might even be my first friends. What did John almost say?? I was a little distracted by his face. After a couple of seconds, it occurred to me that I should say something. "Hi, I really want to get to know you," I said, without thinking. If my brain had been working at its normal speed I probably wouldn't have said that. Something about this guy slowed it down. He blushed. WAIT WHAT. What is happening?! My face is bright pink. I open my mouth but thankfully decide to drink some more beer before I can say another stupid thing. Laff seems to understand more than either of us do. He and Herc are sharing intelligent glances. John looks uncomfortable, still an adorable shade of pink though. Arrgghhh I feel bad for putting him in this positon. It seems the Conspirators realize our discomfort. "So! Let's all get to know one another!" Laff clapped excitedly "First question: How do you like your tea?" Herc quickly answered. "In the harbor!!" we all laughed. Laff liked his plain. Then it was my turn, and my stupid mouth acted of its own accord. "I like my tea like I like my girls" "Sweet? Or strong?" Laff asked. I turned to John. "I don't drink tea, I'm a revolutionary." "Really? same here! I like my tea like I like my girls, but I also don't drink tea, cuz.. well...yea..." He smiled awkwardly at me. I smiled back, as charmingly as I could.

Yep, New York City, friends, and maybe even a more-than-friend

I smiled all the way home, as I clutched a dinner invite in my hand.
