Week Three
I'm really enjoying Charms Classes. They're fun and engaging and the background theory work is fascinating! My Magical education is coming on in leaps and bound. Its challenging, yet extremely rewarding.
This week in Charms we looked at two very useful spells, Alohomora and Reparo. Alohomora is a spell for opening locks and Reparo is used for fixing things.
Studying how to cast Alohomora immediately led me to some confusion. I began with the lock on my front door but I had trouble visualising the parts of a lock and how to move them so I used that wonderful Muggle invention, the internet. I soon discovered how a basic lock works and armed with this information, I proceeded to lock my Mum out of the house! My next challenge will be to see if I can start the car engine with magic.
I found that from all my practice last week with the Alohmora spell, I had lots of broken ornaments and crockery- a perfect way to practice the Reparo spell! I began with a few of my favourite mugs. Like with Alohomora, at first I found focusing the hard part so I did as my text book suggested and visualised the fixed cup. It worked but in my excitement, I lost focus and the cup stopped halfway through mending itself. After mending all Mum's plates, I wandered out to the garden and began fixing everything I thought might be broken. I found that glasses are the most interesting things to watch whilst repairing them. Seeing all those peices of glass zooming together then assembling into a perfect cup is fascinating.
I'm really looking forward to next week's classes and seeing where this Magical journey will take me.
