Preparations For Hogwarts
Chapter 1
I woke up at my usual time, around noon, changed out of my pajamas and into a pair of leggings with a jean skirt over them, black, almost knee-high, heeled boots, and a black, long-sleeved top and went upstairs. It was the summer, but I didn't like wearing skirts without something underneath, like shorts, tights, or leggings. I'm a bit paranoid about people looking underneath, so I try and cover myself as much as possible. It might sound strange to some, but it's just how I am. Anyway, I had come upstairs to see what there was to eat for lunch and settled on a salad and some hot dogs. I noticed a letter laying on the counter and, while my hot dogs were cooking in the microwave, I inspected the letter. It was addressed to me and I hadn't noticed it until now. It was from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and I was a bit skeptical at why they had sent me a letter. I opened it, wondering why I hadn't seen it yesterday, as I assumed it had come with yesterday's mail. I began reading the letter and noted that it wasn't a fake and I wasn't dreaming or hallucinating. I had gotten accepted into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I didn't even remember filling out any paperwork or anything, but I shrugged and put the letter in my purse, hiding it away from my parents. I always did that when I had anything I didn't want them to see, although I didn't know why, since I knew both of my parents could do magic. They could do magic and had Muggle jobs. My parents didn't use their magic unless they had to, so it was only a matter of time before I was able to do magic. I discovered my powers at a young age when I had accidentally locked myself out of my bedroom. I couldn't find the little key to unlock it and I was desperate to get inside, then all of a sudden, after focusing on the lock, it opened. I was so surprised that I didn't tell anyone, and to this day, no one knows what happened except for me.
After enough reminiscing, I went over to the microwave and removed my lunch from it. I doused them in ketchup and began to eat my hot dogs and salad while watching anime on the computer. After lunch, I grabbed my letter and quickly penned a reply, knowing time was of the essence, and somehow, right on cue, an owl smacked right into the window. I looked up from my episode of Attack on Titan with a stoic look on my face and went and opened the window for the owl. I gave it my reply, keeping my supply list, and the owl flew away. I went back to my anime and continued watching it until my mother arrived home from work. I quickly scrambled to close the window, close the computer, clean up the remains of my lunch, and hide my supply list. Luckily, my mother was only home for lunch, so she would be leaving again after she ate. My mom looked at the open window and looked at me running around.
"Why are you running around like that, and why was the window open?" She asked.
"There was a bug in the house and I was letting it out." I replied, stoically.
"You couldn't have just opened the front door and let it out there?"
"No." I replied, stoically, again.
She looked at me again and dropped the subject. She made her lunch and sat and ate it while watching her soap opera on TV. I endured the horrible soap opera and then Mother went back to work. I pulled out my shopping list again and looked it over. I went into one of the other rooms of my house, where a bookshelf was kept and pulled all of my parents' old spell books and text books from the shelves. I brought them out into the living room, resumed my anime, and began reading the books. I wanted to learn everything, but actually doing the magic was difficult. If I could at least know the spells and how to say the incantations properly, I would be well off when I got to school. It was almost impossible to read all of these books in one sitting, so I piled them up and decided to read them one at a time. Soon, Mother and Father both arrived home from work and I knew I had to say something about my letter. I couldn't stay silent about it any longer. At dinner, I told them about my letter and how I had sent my owl with my confirmation. I don't think they could've been any happier, their smiles were so big, it was a little unnerving. Mother told me when we would go and get my supplies, so after I finished eating, I went downstairs and began packing up my stuff. I packed just about every piece of clothing I ever owned, my laptop, though with my luck, it wouldn't work, my sketchbooks, drawing books, coloring supplies, pencil case, other books, various snacks, and the list went on. I thought I was going to need a bigger bag, and maybe I was. After packing, I relaxed and awaited the shopping day, which was weird, since I hated shopping, unless I was with my closest friends; my closest friends that I had to tell I was going away for awhile. They were going to kill me for sure. I laid down in bed and fell asleep almost immediately.
I woke up the next morning around my usual time, and noticed that Mother was home for lunch. I came upstairs to get my own lunch and Mother informed me that we would be running some errands. I didn't want to go, but I knew she was going to make me. After lunch, we hopped into her car and drove off toward parts unknown to me. It wasn't long before we pulled into the lot of a large building. Mother gave me the option of staying in the car or coming in, to which I chose to stay in the car. She went into the building and spent some length of time in there. When she finally came out, she held a bag in her hands. I wondered what was in the bag, but I didn't ask. She got in the car and handed me the bag, then we were on our way. We left the building and drove until we hit a barren looking area.
"What's up with this place? There's no one here, so why are we?"
"I know patience isn't one of your strong suits, but please try."
"Fine, whatever."
We got out of the car, Mother leading the way. We walked until we hit a gate, then Mother pressed a few buttons and the gate opened. She had made sure to grab the bag before we left the car, since I had forgotten to. We walked through the gate and I immediately realized where we were. I didn't realize the shopping day had already arrived and all I could do was wait until I was home. I really hated shopping! Mother handed me the bag and told me to get everything on my shopping list, so I purchased my robes, books, and other supplies. After all that, Mother and I stopped by the pet shop and I purchased a beautiful, male snowy owl, who I named Feliks. I found the wand shop and Mother stayed with Feliks and the rest of my purchases while I went in to get my wand.
I walked into the wand shop and immediately was a tad overwhelmed by the musty smell. An older man came up as I approached the sales desk and looked at me. I was wearing a white button up shirt, a plaid skirt with black tights, and my black boots. My hair was up in a high ponytail with my bangs coming down to just above my eyebrows and I had worn my glasses. He looked me over and disappeared into the back of the store. While he was gone, I was getting measured from head to toe by a floating tape measure. I wanted to swat the thing away from me as if it was a fly. He came back with some boxes after a few minutes. I was confused, because I never actually told him that I needed a wand and he looked me over like a creepy old man eyeing a piece of meat. I inwardly shuddered at that thought, but kept it to myself. He opened one of the boxes and handed me the wand inside. The wand I held in my hand didn't feel right to me and it didn't do anything, I couldn't feel anything from it. The salesman took it and gave me another wand to try. This time something happened, but it wasn't good. A blast of wind shot out of the tip of the wand and hit the shelves behind the older man. I apologized profusely, but he just smiled and handed me another wand. I held the third wand for a few moments before I threw it down on the counter. My hands felt like they had been burnt, so clearly that wasn't the wand for me either. The man opened another box and handed me the wand inside. He began to speak and I was startled because I had never heard him talk before.
"This wand is 12.5 inches long, made from the finest pine wood and the finest phoenix feather core. It has an unyielding flexibility and I think it could suit you more than the rest of these wands ever could. The pine wood suits an individual, independent individual who may or may not be a loner. It seems to me that you fit that description, though you have a few close friends. You may not think you're creative, but you are, and pine wands like that in an owner. The flexibility means that the wand, which may or may not be like the owner, doesn't have a high degree of willingness to change. Unyielding wands are very set in their principles, and you seem like a woman also very set in her ways. Phoenix Tail Feather is the rarest wand core and they are the hardest to tame. They prefer to act of their own accord and they take the longest to reveal their true range of magic, which is the greatest range of all the cores. You are a woman that maintains, or at least tries to maintain, a calm, stoic, detached composure, befitting of a Phoenix Tail Feather core. The length is a little bit longer than the average, 12.5 inches, but it still suits you, being a woman of average height and your propensity for wearing those heeled boots of yours."
I had a feeling he was right about that, because what I was seeing right in front of me could only be described as a coincidence, which I didn't believe in. Sparks were coming out of the tip of the wand and they were forming a shape. The sparks were black in color and they were forming the shape of a rose. I was surprised that the wand was doing this, because black was my favorite color and roses were my favorite flower. No one knew this except for me, my best friends, and a few family members. The man smiled and I handed my wand back to him. He boxed it up and I paid for it. I told him to have a nice day and left his shop. I met up with my mom and Feliks outside the shop and added my wand to the rest of my purchases. After a long day of shopping, we got back in the car and drove home. When we got home, I went to my room and fell asleep, sleeping through dinner, and through the rest of the night.
