Chapter Five: Something There
Chapter 5
The next day, when Lily was staring at the ceiling, her mum knocked on her door.
"Is it Mum or Dad?" Lily called aimlessly.
"It's me, Lily." Ginny replied.
"Oh. Well, come in." said Lily.
"Lily, you know why we left you yesterday, right?" Ginny asked anxiously. "If you're still a bit cross about that..."
"Oh, no, it's not that." Lily replied quickly. She had been soulless from the moment she stepped out of the Scamanders' door, and her parents seemed to think it was their fault for going to King's Cross without her.
"I know how much you like going to King's Cross." Ginny said apologetically.
"No, it's fine." Lily gave Ginny a grin. "I'll have to go next year anyway."
Ginny smiled too. "Of course." she said, but immediately turned serious. "If it's not that, what's bothering you, sweetheart?"
Lily pursed her lips. "It's just that... Lorcan and Lysander's so secretive now! I went to have our fifty seventh meeting-"
"Oh, you're keeping track?"
"Yes, anyway I went but they said they're experimenting something about Nargles, whatever that is, and they're saying answers too quickly. Like when I asked them 'are you hiding something?' and they're like 'no!' super fast! I hate it! What's wrong with them?"
"They've just simply changed." Ginny said. "Try to understand their changes."
Lily looked at the floor. "Okay," she said. "But I still don't get it. Why can't it be like old times?"
Ginny smiled. "Wait," she suggested. "Wait until they come to your doorstep, begging for the meetings."
Lily grinned too. "It'd be great." she said happily. "I'll just leave them alone. Great thinking, Mum! You're the best!"
Ginny watched as her daughter bounded off to Harry, yelling, "I'll just leave them alone! Mum's the best, Dad!" and Harry replying "Of course she's the best. She's your mum." Ginny couldn't help but smile.
"I do wish I could tell her," Ginny murmured. "I do know the part about Nargles, Luna told me. I'm not sure Lily will like it as something, but she'll love it as a gift. But the twins definitely changed. Maybe I should ask Luna. LILY, DEAR? CAN I USE CRYSTAL?"
"SURE, MUM!"
Ginny dipped her pen in blue ink and began to scribble a letter to Luna Lovegood Scamander.
"Go on, Crystal," she said, tying the letter to Crystal's leg. "You told us wonderfully that Lily left, I'm sure you can deliver the message just fine."
Crystal gave a proud hoot and flew off to the bright, blue sky.
Twenty minutes later, Luna Lovegood Scamander noticed a snowy white owl perched on her windowsill.
"What could it be?" she wondered aloud. "Oh, it's a letter from Ginny. Dear Luna, Lily cam home tomorrow -oh dear- and she looked devastated somehow. She told me about the Nargles and Lorcan and Lysander acting weird. I do know about the Nargle thing from that wonderful letter you sent me, but I think there's something there. Do you know anything? Lily's so devastated I do wish I could help her. Oh, Merlin, this can be an excuse to find out."
Luna climbed the stairs quietly, being careful not to make the stairs creak from her weight, and opened the boys' door. There wasn't Rolf, so the boys weren't doing the 'Nargles' thing.
"What are you doing?" she asked. She peeked over the boys' heads, and saw two pieces of paper, each with something written. "Writing something?"
The two boys jumped and hid their letters quickly. "Nothing!" they cried a bit too quickly. Luna smiled and nodded, and left.
"Something there," she nodded. "Definitely."
Thirty minutes later, Ginny Weasley Potter found Crystal hooting very loudly over the loud noise coming from outside.
"Sorry, Crystal," she said hurriedly, wiping her hands on her apron. "What is it? Oh, you got Luna's letter." Ginny opened the letter and read it aloud. "Dear Ginny, I crept in the boys' room and wow, they're doing something alright. They seem to be writing something, but they don't show me what. I think it's a letter, since I saw the top line as: Dear. I couldn't see the names since they practically jumped on it! They're definitely hiding something. There's something there." Ginny finished reading the letter.
"What do you think, Crystal?" she asked. "Is something there?"
Crystal hooted.
