Chapter #1: Prologue WARNING!!! IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN CAPTIAN AMERICA THE WINTER SOLDIER, THOR THE DARK WORLD, AND AGENTS OF S.H.I. E.L.D YOU MIGHT BE SUBJECTED TO SPOILERS. Genre: Action, Romantic Rating: PG-13 Note: Rating is probably too high but there might be slightly higher rated content than a PG-8 would be. Newspaper articles, news stories, and events are all fictional or mostly fictional. Chapter Summary: Introduction to the characters and some back stories. Characters in order of how you meet them: Becka Mason, Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow), Steven Rogers (Captain America) Becka Mason It was a normal day for me. I was sitting in my room playing halo on my newly purchased Xbox, listening to soundtracks for my all time favourite musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat, and thinking about my uncle. Life had not been as normal as it used to be ever since Uncle Phil died. My uncle Phil had worked as an official secretary for government security. Even though he had passed on just over two years ago, I have been incomplete ever since; and even though I had seen his dead body at his funeral I still did not believe that I had lost him. One thing was different about today though, in only a few hours one of my uncle’s very best “friends” was going to pick me up and take me to where they used to work together. At first my parents were reluctant to let their 15 year old daughter off with a man they had never met before, but since I was extremely close to my uncle, they finally agreed. Three hours later the man who was supposed to pick me up “arrived”. Except it was not a male who had come, no, it was a young red headed female in an exceedingly expensive car. When she exited the car I was giving her a questioning look and invited her inside. “I would love to see your house and I do need to talk to your parents, but we have to get to the air port in an hour and it took me forty minutes to get here so I will have to be fast. Now go get your stuff.” The lady said referring to the time it takes to get to my far away farm in the country. I pulled my small bag that was packed for a three day vacation into the living room. As soon as I entered I was informed that the trip will be a little longer than expected, I was going to be away till September and it was March. I wasn’t told why but I accepted the offer and quickly gathered all my clothes, then scurrying off into the fancy car I kissed my parents goodbye. I was gone. Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow) My mission was simple, retrieve the young lady from Canada, and bring her back to headquarters to meet with Director Fury. There were small complications such as getting the parents to agree to let their only daughter who was only 15 to leave their care for over 6 months. Also doing this and still managing to keep the real reason they were retrieving her secret. I was good at doing these sorts of things though, it was my specialty. I had been able to gain knowledge of a Russian spy’s plan without him even realizing it. I had arrived at the young lady’s house and when she saw me she looked surprised. “I was expecting a man.” She said abruptly, “The one who had spoken to me on the phone two weeks ago, he said that he would be coming to get me.” The confusion in her eyes seemed clear. “Well, you see Mr. Fury had an appointment and I had to come and escort you to New Mexico.” After she accepted this she had invited me inside. We only had a short time until we had to be back at the airport to jump on the plane that would take us to S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters, but it was just enough to get her parents to agree to let her go. On the drive to the airport both of us wouldn’t talk. I was willing to speak whenever I was provoked but to strike up a conversation with a fifteen year old, I hadn’t done that in 10 years. It was all right though. Long drives were best taken with silence. Becka had broken the silence only for a moment asking if she could turn on the radio. She turned it on to a country station and that was all we heard until we got to the airport. Steve Rogers (Captain America) Growing weary with waiting for Natasha I continued to read an appealing article in the Edmonton Journal about their hockey team, the Oil Kings, winning their biggest game of the season. Since I was still catching up on what the world was about, I found it useful to read various newspapers from multiple towns. Even though I was intrigued with this story it was still quite tiresome having to wait a few hours for Natasha and a girl who I had just found out was named Becka. I had no idea why we were picking her up, and how Fury even knew about her, but never the less I was awaiting two women that I would escort back to headquarters in this very large private jet. Natasha was just pulling up when the engine of the plane roared to life. Running toward the plane Natasha had pulled Becka in front of her and I pulled her up into the plane, and then proceeded to help Natasha up. We flew over Niagara Falls and continued for the next hour and ten minutes until we finally landed in one of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s private runways. The whole ride was silent except for the five minutes it took for Becka to locate the bathrooms and come back to find us, in which Natasha and I talked about our guest; neither of us knowing her back story or why she was with us. “Why do you think that Fury requested us to pick her up?” I simply questioned knowing that even if Natasha knew she probably would lie about it. “Honestly Steve, I have no idea. I mean Fury tells us that this is a simple op, it requires no knowledge in reasons why she is coming out here, or who she really is. All he told me was that we will find out what we need when the time is right.” Confused we thought up multiple scenarios, we laughed with some and thought deeply about others. We still would not be able to know what Fury was up to, or why.

Chapter 3

Chapter Summary: Steven Rogers and Becka Mason go on their mission. Natasha Romanoff’s mission explained.

Characters in order of how you meet them: Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow), Phil Coulson, Steve Rogers (Captain America), Becka Mason

Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow)

This was one of the strangest missions I had ever been on. I was going to fly to London to meet with a man, I had no idea who this man was or why I was going to get him. Fury had insinuated that I did know him, but kept it a secret as to who he was. I was nervous for the first time since I had to retrieve Dr. Banner from Calcutta.

I was in line at the airport with a secure alibi, although the black, waist-long, wig itched my head, I enjoyed being undercover. It was always an adventure, not that I didn’t have a lot of adventures in this line of work; there constantly were new things that I was required to do, but I loved it, I thought, as I settled into my seat which was first class. Fury had sprung for the good seats for once.

I must have fallen asleep on the way because I jumped when someone tapped me on the shoulder asking me to put my seat back into its original position. I felt strange considering I never usually jump when I am touched on the shoulder, I do remember something in one of my dreams about Clint Barton, my partner on many ops, disappearing; that must have made me skittish. As I looked out the window I saw the low clouds begin to disappear and the ancient buildings and large bridges slowly form like ideas in your mind taking shape. I breathed slowly to calm my racing heart as we touched down on the tarmac of Heathrow Airport.

Waiting my turn to exit the plane I thought about the guest that I had brought to HQ not even three days ago. What had Fury intended to accomplish by bringing her here? She was a nobody, with no training, clearance, or connection to S.H.I.E.L.D. I usually never could understand anything that Fury did, especially now.

Continuing in character the driver of the car Fury had arranged for was a professional driver, not an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. We drove to the place that we were to pick up the man that I was to meet. I had a picture of him and was ready to find him and bring him back at all costs. As we drove down Regent Street I saw him, I waved to him and quickly flashed my badge.

He entered the vehicle. Pulled off a mask and, “Hello Agent Romanoff.” Phil Coulson smirked.

Agent Phil Coulson

I enjoy making Natasha Romanoff question what was happening, and I always love seeing people’s faces when I surprise them. Agent Romanoff was silent on the ride back to the airport I could tell not only did she not know what to say, she also didn’t know what to think; seeing someone, after they had been dead for over two years, alive would be a mental shock to anyone. Natasha was always someone who bounced back fast, but today she seemed off. I was concerned, even though we are not supposed to think of those we work with in a personal way, I had always considered her family. Family that is what I had always loved about S.H.I.E.L.D. We were a family. There was a possibility that Natasha was saddened because she heard the news about Agent Barton being MIA. I hoped she would be better when we got on the plane.

We arrived at the airport and left the driver with a generous tip. Natasha, still silent walked over to the private jet that was sent for us, though I did hear her whisper under her breath “This is way better than having to wear that itchy wig.”

“How are you doing Agent Romanoff?” I asked concerned.

Nothing, Natasha said nothing. I assumed her answer with the silence and the look on her face. She could usually hide her emotions well, but I saw tears well up in her eyes as she thought about whatever she was thinking about. At long last she looked at me “Where have you been?” She asked with her voice wavering on the brink of crying as she attempted to control herself.

“I was in Tahiti. It’s a magical place.” I said quoting my alibi, the alibi that Fury had planted in my head as he had me worked on, to bring me back to life.

“Why? I....I thought you......died.” Natasha’s voiced cracked as she sobbed, not holding back the tears any longer.

“How are you?” I asked avoiding her question, but she did not answer instead she excused herself and rushed to the bathroom. Still sobbing as she ran down the isle of the plane, I hoped this wasn’t too much for her to handle.

Steve Rogers (Captain America)

Having someone cling to you like a dryer sheet on a pair of pants may seem great to some people, but I didn’t enjoy Becka’s constant smothering. Needless to say I was not enjoying having to bring Becka along on this mission, especially since we were taking a train to our location. The small quarters were making me feel claustrophobic, though I am certain that Becka enjoyed it thoroughly. She would not stop talking unless she asked me a question, and even then it was only for a second. I could not understand half of what she was babbling, it all seemed like gibberish to me. I was still getting used to the culture shock. So when she told me about this text she sent to her best friend and all she got as a reply was something called a “smiley emoji”. I was completely confused. The thing that I was not looking forward to was that we would be on this train for three weeks as we went to Alaska, the location that I just found out we were going, along with the information that Agent Clint Barton was missing. I was worried about this knowing that Natasha had most likely heard about it, she would be devastated.

Becka Mason

Captain America and I had a train car all to our selves. My friends would have killed me if they knew I had not been enjoying being so close to Captain America. I mean I was crazy not to love having one of my idols right beside me for almost a month. I mean I could smell his amazing cologne and thought it was the perfect scent for him but it’s not like I hoped that he would fall in love with me or anything. So in other words I wasn’t fangirling like I should have been.

I found it so awkward that I was just babbling like a monkey. I should have been locked in a cage on my way to the zoo. I told him some stories about my friends. These are the type of stories that if my friends knew I had blabbed they would kill me. I was confused because I was given a bag of clothes I was to bring along, as well as a wig, a passport with some other person’s name on it and a picture of me with blonde hair. I was also given some paper and a pen. Fury told me that I should write to my parents and friends. Telling them all about my travels, but leaving out the part about S.H.I.E.L.D. and what they were all about. I was allowed to bring a book and my iPod as well, which made me feel at home, and helped me fall asleep since Captain America was sleeping by 8:30 every night.

Dear Sara and Diana,

I am having a fantastic time here in New Mexico. The people here are so nice. Guess what, you will never believe this, I met Captain America. I am so happy. This is like nothing I have ever experienced before. We are going to be in Alaska for a couple days and then I am going back to New Mexico. In the meantime I am on a train right now with Captain America as my escort. I miss you guys like crazy.

-Becka

P.S. The return address is for Mr. Fury’s office, he will make sure I get any mail you send.

Dear Mom and Dad,

I miss you guys so much. Part of me just wants to come home, but the other part of me wants to stay here forever. Well not right here since I am on a train to Alaska but you know what I mean. I found out some pretty cool stuff about Uncle Phil. Mom, I know you would love to hear more about your brother. I think that Mr. Fury and Dad would get along really well. I also have this amazing bodyguard assigned to me. You will never guess who it is, Captain America. Surprisingly I am not going all fangirl around him, as much as I thought anyway.

I wish I could be with you guys right now. Kiss my kitty Thomson for me. Love you and miss you tons.

-Becka

P.S. Mr. Fury will be receiving my mail and sending it to me, so the return address is for his office. Love you!!!
