Chapter 4
"Do you ever wonder why you can't change the course of nature?" asked Hermione, trying to lift the silence that had blanketed over them for what seemed like hours. She looked at Draco, her brown eyes lit up with curiosity. "There are so many things happen, yet we can only control what's in our power."
"Not really." he said, glancing at her. He paused for a moment, as if trying to find the words to portray what his thoughts meant. "I don't know why things happen the way they do, but..." He turned towards her, uncrossing his arms. "I know that everything happens for a reason."
They were silent after that. It wasn't empty, like some stillness were; this one...words weren't needed to portray the meaning. The meaning was embedded within the emptiness itself.
The moonlight danced on the water; the nightingales sung melodies to the clouds, to the midnight blue sky, to the forest, the earth, the water. They sang about change- about how the world survived over decades, over centuries of things changing. How one thing survived within that changing world. One thing that never broke, or cracked, or shattered. One thing that remained over lifetimes of war and hate. One thing that brought everyone together, no matter the situation. One thing that could save countless lives. One thing that came from the deepest part of someone; from their soul; their heart.
Hermione couldn't think of anything to say. The tranquil silence was calming, and she didn't want to break the silence with another question. So, she stayed, part of the silence, and watched the moonlit waves crash on the beach; back, and forth, back, and forth. The water always came, and always left; one after the other. It was endless repetition; the water would always come back to the shore, no matter how long it took. The sand and waves were always together, even if it was for the slightest moment. Though they went away, they came back. Just like how Hermione wanted her life to back, just like how it had always been before.
