Silence

Chapter 19
"Again, we find ourselves together." Hermione said playfully, glancing at him and looking back out at the water.
"Apparently so." Draco replied quietly.
In truth...he was glad that she had come. It made him feel calmer, simply being around her. No wonder the name Hermione meant stone; she seemed to ground him where he was, and made him feel like there was no need for the shield he always put up around others. That was one of the reasons he...admired her. The others- well, those could wait.
They stayed in silence for the next while, the only sound the singing of the nightingales in the forest. The waves lapped at the shore, carrying small, white shells on it's tongue, feeling the warm breeze that the serene darkness offered. Besides nature with her melody...silence. Usually, Draco would know what to say. Or, Hermione would come up with something witty and have them both laughing in the next few seconds. But now...silence. Silence was all that followed.
Silence can be reverberate, and silence can be deafening. But silence can also hold what words carry- power, influence, and strength.
And so, they just stood there, in silence.

"I don't know what you're talking about." Hermione said, pointing her nose in the air. She turned towards Ginny, crossing her arms. "I do not fancy Draco Malfoy."
Ginny raised an eyebrow, tossing her hair over her shoulder. She looked around, and then leaned in towards her. "Then how come you met up at the Black Lake last night?" she whispered, smirking a smirk that could have been Malfoy's himself. She smiled at Hermione's dumbstruck expression, shrugging. "I can't believe that the other girls slept through that owl pecking on the windows."
"We just talked." Hermione mumbled, face turning redder and redder by the second.
"Even if you did just "talk," you enjoyed it!" sang Ginny, grinning as the brunette blushed furiously. "Your face is, like, the same color as my hair." she laughed. "You can't deny it, Mione. There's something going on."
"Yeah, we're Potions partners." Hermione mumbled. "That's it."
Ginny doubled over, wiping a tear from her eye. "You're Potions partners, too?" she giggled, shaking her head. "That's just...you're going to have the best year ever, Hermione. I wish I was in the same year as you so I could be in Harry's Potions class."
"But you and Harry are-" she stopped in the middle of her sentence, knowing that Ginny would use her words as more proof that there was something going on between her and Draco. "Never mind." she mumbled, rolling her eyes and turning back to her textbook. "We should study." she finally said, pulling her hair back into a ponytail. Ginny just smiled, taking out a notebook and quill.
