Chapter 11
Hermione woke up when she heard voices talking. She blinked, looking up at Ginny and Harry who were seated on two chairs next to her cot.
"Hermione!" Ginny cried suddenly, enveloping her friend in a hug. "Are you okay!?" she asked frantically, surveying her. Hermione smiled, nodding.
"I'm fine." she said reassuringly, sitting up. "But-" she started, the memories of the previous night suddenly coming back to her- memories upon memories, emotions upon emotions. She remembered how easy it had been to talk to Draco- no, Malfoy. She remembered how he had cared enough to check on her- it brought a slight smile to her face. She shook her head. "Never mind." Hermione mumbled, not ready to tell her friends. Sure, it was only Harry and Ginny. But that was the thing...being who they were, they wouldn't understand. They wouldn't realize what it had been like for her. Ginny nodded, but she seemed to be thinking. She seemed to be reviewing possibilities of what it was that Hermione didn't want to share. She opened her mouth, quickly closing it. As Harry and Hermione talked, Ginny thought and thought about what Hermione could be hiding. Her eyes widened as she came across a potential possibility. Malfoy...? Could it have been...? Ginny stared at Hermione as she and Harry conversed. The brunette seemed happier than usual. She seemed...content.
Ginny and Harry stayed with her for an hour longer, before they were required to leave by Madam Pomfrey. Hermione waved, looking down at her hands as the doors to the Infirmary closed. She was almost sure that Ginny had an idea about what had happened last night. She smiled to herself. Hermione truly had enjoyed that time with Draco. It gave her a warm feeling just thinking about it. Did she like him? So soon after Ron broke up with her? Hermione contemplated this, spending almost an hour thinking and staring at her hands. Did she...? Could she possibly be falling for the Slytherin Prince?
Her cheeks tinted pink as she thought about it. She had never felt this way around Ron. With the Weasley, it felt like how she and Harry were. Friends. But with Malfoy...it was something else. Something else that she couldn't exactly place.
"Draco." she whispered fondly to herself, laying back down and closing er eyes. Maybe...just maybe...she liked him a bit.
