~Aboriginal Life

-among the oldest magical practices in the world
-250 distinct language groups
-pop. between 75,000 and 350,000
-smaller divisions - families, clans, moieties
-All those of aboriginal life were divided into 1 of 2 moieties
-People of the Yolŋu (Yolngu) were divided into either Dhuwa or Yirritja, along with animals, plants and totems
-Ppl of each moiety were associated with things in nature
-In ea. tribe with moieties, men and women could only marry those of the opposite moiety
-this typically divided the magic and muggles
-intermarriage of magical and non-magical Australians very prominent
-Aborigines spread across the continent
-magic became tailored to the land they lived in
-deeply in touch with nature
-magical practices very nature-focused
-allowed individuals to breathe underwater, adapt to look like their surroundings while hunting, and even suppress explosions of volcanoes
-Aboriginals not largely exposed to other cultures till mid to late 1700s

~Colonization

-Magical folk came hidden among muggle european explorers in 1700s
-gradually magical folk built settlements deep in australia
-industrial revolution and escape from the non-magical pop. drove them there
-Due to a phenomenon known as ethnocentrism, many of the explorers who had investigated the Australian continent had assumed that there were no other ethnicities, apart from themselves
-land was claimed by british and dutch settlers, despite the aboriginals being there first
-natives suffered from diseases, displacement, and the exhaustion of natural resources due to the European’s unfamiliarity with living off the land as the Aborigines did
-highest Aborigine presence now centers around the Northern Territory

~Danuda Magical Academy

-created in a location originally known as "uninhabitable"
-founders said it was perfect
-made more hospitable over 1800s
-Various incantations for irrigation, weather adaptation, and animal-repelling, along with the expected Muggle protective enchantments were layered over the area
-wizarding families previously had sent children to european magic schools
-Outlying Offices of Magical Australia decided to build their own institution
-exchange students have become more popular between the aboriginals and other schools
