The Hippogriff
Chapter 3
The Hippogriff is a magical creature that is typically confused with the Griffin, but relations between the animals do not exist. Their rear is not a lion, like the similar Griffin, but a horse's croup, tail, and hind legs. Physiologically they are a comparatively dangerous beast, unless properly tamed, carnivorous and naturally demand respect. It is necessary that, on approach, measures as a bow should be taken, and the Hippogriff's approval awaited [in a responding bow] before the creature is approached.
The Hippogriff is known to lay one, single egg in a nest on the ground. They will be highly protective of their dwelling or territory, if it notices possibly tacit or outright threats. A Hippogriff is possible yet considerably rare.
Newton Scamander's mother was known to breed Hippogriffs.
