Chapter 1
"Good morning Leonie!" Brandon said, yawning. He was an ordinary kid. At least, that's what everyone thought he was. The truth is that he wasn't normal at all. At the age of five, he discovered he had powers that he had never seen before. A weird black and red sludge that seemed to flow through him, that obeyed his wish and command. He has since learned to control it perfectly. He used it to make swords and lances, axes and bows. He found it best to hide this power from the public eye. Not even his parents know about it. They where hunters and merchants, who took him on a trip to a village they commonly traded with. There he met his first friend, Leonie Pinneli. She was the daughter of two of the village hunters, and supposedly was called an apprentice to captain Jeralt Eizner, the most well known captain of the knights of Serios who turned into a mercenary and gained the title of the blade breaker. He has since made sure to accompany his parents whenever they went to her village. She wore a white button up shirt, a black skirt, and some black archery gloves. she also wore a red jacket tied around her waist to mach her orange hair.
"Good morning, Brandon! Have any plans for today?" Leonie called back.
"I was considering heading to the forest. Train a bit, and if a giant wolf shows up, just slightly harder training, you know?" Brandon responded. "Then me and my parents are travelling to Riegan territory to try to get a recommendation."
"Your leaving? You only just got here yesterday."
"Don't worry, Leonie. I'll be back by tomorrow."
He departed for the forest, trained for a while, but then he heard his parents calling. It was time.
"come one Brandon! We have an appointment with Duke Riegan to keep if you want to attend Garreg Mach!"
Garreg Mach monastery. The most well known school for warriors, mercenaries, and nobles ever known. Of course he wanted to attend. He just needed the Recommendation from some nobles.
"Ok, I assume where headed out then? It takes an Hour to get to the riegan territory after all."
"Yes. Yes we are." Brandons Father responded.
A tedious hour of staring out of the side of a cart later, and they arrived at the house of duke riegan and his grandson, Claude Von Riegan.
"Alright, you stay out here. We'll go negotiate for your recommendation. Hopefully it isn't too expensive...." Brandon's mom trailed off, and was quickly let inside by duke riegan.
Brandon intended to fire an arrow with a rope attached, and hang out in the tree nearby the building, but to his surprise, there was already a rope in the tree. As well as another boy, who looked around 17, just a year younger than Brandon himself. He had brown hair and eyes, and was wearing a black and yellow outfit, with a short yellow cape to match. They boy jumps out of the tree.
"Hey! It's Brandon right?" the person said.
"Yes, that would be correct. You must be Claude, right?"
"Indeed I am. Man, this is too formal. How about we go back into the tree?"
"The less formal the better. I was left out here for a reason. I don't do that 'formal' nonsense very well."
They climbed the rope into the tree, and continued talking. By the end of the visit, they where friends.
"Hey Brandon!" Brandon's dad called. "Come on down! Were headed home. We can't afford the recommendation. You cant go to Garreg Mach."
Brandon's face fell, and, strangely, Claude got down first and walked up to Duke Riegan, who had just walked out, and got straight to the point.
"If Brandon can't go to Garreg Mach, nether will I."
"You can't be serious! They cant afford a recommendations, and won't go into debt. Your not going to throw away your future!" The duke responded.
"You know the other option." Claude said, smirking.
The duke sighed.
"Fine. You can have your recommendation for free. You better not fail.
Brandon got off the tree and looked at Claude.
"I don't know what to say.."
"Just don't hug me." Claude said.
