7. Seek.....
Chapter 7
It was halfway into free period two weeks later, and already Equity was exhausted. She was busy as the trial subject of Indira's Exertion charm. She was sweaty and hot and pretty fed up.
"Can we practice mine now? It's a Seek spell. It makes this ball of light, and you tell it what you need, and it finds it. You have to be careful, though. Once I asked it to find my socks, but all it heard was 'socks'. It came back with thirty-seven random socks!"
Indira laughed. "That happened to my mom once. Hey, who are your mom and dad? You never seem to talk about them."
A mass of emotions twisted through Equity's stomach. On the one hand, she had tried to tell those girls a few weeks ago. All that had gotten her was a face full of pond. On the other hand, Indira always shared everything, from test scores to anecdotes about her mother's time in Hogwarts.
"I, um, oh. My parents are Lord Voldemort and Bellatrix Lestrange. The reason I didn't tell you before is because I worried that you wouldn't like me anymore if you knew. I tried to tell a couple of girls on the Hogwarts Express, and then they tripped me into the pond later. I can't ask anyone about my parents. I never really knew them. I lived with the Potters for a few years, until they told me it was time for me to come here. I don't know my extended family. Well, not really. I know my mom had a sister, Narcissa. She's dead now, but she had a son. I think his name is Drago or something weird."
Indira hugged her. "I think it's Draco. He used to go here. Hey, what better time to test out your Seek charm?"
Equity raised her wand. "Quaerere!" A tiny ball of green light blossomed at the tip of her wand. As it grew, Equity whispered to it, "Find Draco." It swirled in the air and then set off.
If you had looked out your window that day, you would have seen a small blob of light bouncing down the street, with two girls trying their best to follow it.
