Young Tom Riddle was very good looking (according to the books) and very popular. At a young age he was very interested in the Dark Arts. He approached Horace Slughorn for some more information about Horcruxes. Once learned, he started learning about Hogwarts history and found that each of the Founders had and object that was crucial to the history. Riddle knew that this is what
he wanted these objects to be his Horcruxes.

Here are what his Horcruxes were:
1. Nagini (his snake)
2. Salzar Slytherin's locket
3. Helga Hufflepuff's Goblet
4. The Diadem of Ravenclaw
5. The Diary of Tom Riddle
6. Marvolo Gaunt's Ring
7. Professor Quirrel (1st Book)
