Lesson 5 (Focus)

Chapter 5

Lesson 5:

General notes

- Focus gives power, often more effective than wand movement
or incantation alone.

- Spells where focusing is needed will never not require
focusing.

- Sloppy or misdirected focus can result in spell misfire

Continued practice with previous weeks’ spells. Meditation
session. Was able to light candles without touching them (still proximity)

Spells

Severing charm (“Diffindo”; pronounced “deef” not “diff”,
V-shape with swish in cutting direction). Wrist movement. Focus required to get
severs to work. Dinged the wood of my bed rather than cut.. Moved outside to
practice targeting.

Softening charm (“Spongify”; S-shape, swishy flourish along
middle). As in DADA…does not seem like a particularly useful spell. Practiced
on textbooks; more focus got the squishy effect to last longer (max was 14
minutes)
