Chapter 2
Note: this lesson was mostly introduction and extra credit, so there wasn't a lot of work.
This is everything you need to know to pass the mandatory quiz.
*The Dark Arts is a blanket term for anything that has the intent to harm, injure, or kill.
*Voldemort tried to gain power from 1995-1998.
*The Potter family was attacked in 1981, resulting in the death of James and Lily Potter.
*Voldemorts death eaters rose to power in 1997, and they legalized the use of dark magic.
*The Dark arts were taught at Hogwarts in the 97-98 school year.
*There are 5 categories of Dark Magic: Dark spells, dark potions, dark creatures, dark artifacts, and dark practices.
*Dark spells and creatures are the primary focus of year one.
*There are 3 categories of dark spells.
Differentiating Jinxes, Hexes, and Curses:
A Jinx is a spell that is non-fatal, but mildly irritating. Think of the Jelly-Legs Jinx.
A Hex is worse than a Jinx but not nearly as bad as a Curse. Think of the Bat-Bogey Hex.
A Curse is the worst kind of dark spell. It can be fatal. Think of the Cruciatus Curse. (one of the unforgivable)
The Unforgivable Curses:
The Unforgivable Curses are the evilest spells of all. Using one of them will earn you a one-way straight to Azkaban.
They are the Killing Curse, the Cruciatus Curse, and the Imperius Curse. These are talked about more in the later years.
SPELLCASTING:
Incantation: Lumos (LOO-mos)
Wand Movement: A counter-clockwise loop
Concentration: Low - lighting up the tip of your wand
Willpower: Low

Opinion essay: what are your thoughts on the legality of Dark Magic?
NOTE: While I have all of the necessary information here, I strongly suggest reading through the whole lesson/instructions.
