Harry James Potter was born on July 31, in the village of Godric's Hollow in 1980. When Harry was just one year old, in 1981, his parents were killed by He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, now more commonly known as Lord Voldemort, or Tom Riddle. He tried to also kill Harry, but instead it was his downfall. He gave Harry a lightning bolt scar on the right side of his forehead, and it made Harry Potter one of his horcruxes, but more into that later.

Harry Potter had to go live with his terrible aunt, uncle, and cousin, because that was the only family he had left. His aunt was Petunia, his uncle was Vernon, and his cousin was Dudley. They were the Dursleys. They were muggles, and very ordinary, as they say. They treated Harry horribly, but Harry had no other place to go.

When Harry was eleven years old, he got his Hogwarts letter. Petunia and Vernon, (Dudley didn't know), kept it from him. They went somewhere far away to get away from the letters, but that didn't work. A half-giant named Rubeus Hagrid instead came to them and told harry, "You're a wizard." Harry didn't believe him at first, but Hagrid finally convinced him.
